SFC. Gunther "Rick" Stegmeier
August 2, 1929 ~ July 9, 2016
SFC. Gunther "Rick" Stegmeier, passed away on July 9, 2016 in Augusta, GA. Born on August 2, 1929 in New York City, he was the son of the late Hans and Ida Stegmeier.
Rick is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gwendolyn Stegmeier. Rick is survived by his children: Bruce Stegmeier (Debra), Denise Lyon (Edwin), Rick Stegmeier, Sr. (Gwen), Robin Meese (Jeffrey), 10 Grandchildren and 8 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his two sisters: Gertrude Stegmeier, and Charlotte Biggers.
Gunther was an outstanding and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed time spent with his family to the fullest. He enjoyed time spent with the men and women of the 404th MP Company, enjoyed boating, fishing and shooting with family and friends. He was raised in Washington, D.C., served in the U.S. Army, was a Vietnam and WWII veteran. Gunther retired after 20 years of service to his country, then retired from the General Services Administration as a HAVC Technician.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 1:00 – 2:00 PM in the Leonardtown Baptist Church, Leonardtown, MD, followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 PM with Rev. Mark Dooley officiating.
Interment will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to a charity of your choice in the honor of his name.
