Eric Thomas Askins

Eric Thomas Askins, 17, of Hollywood, MD passed away on October 9, 2016. Born on October 20, 1998 in Prince Frederick, MD, he was the loving son of Laura “Laurie” Kimberly Quade Askins and Joseph “Joe” Mitchell Askins of Hollywood, MD. Eric is survived by his brother, Travis Joseph Askins of Hollywood, MD and grandmother, Nancy Irene Quade. He is preceded in death by his grandparents; Martin Allen Quade, Loretta Askins and Mitchell Askins.
Eric graduated from Great Mills High School in 2016 and was student at University of Maryland Baltimore County. He was a lifeguard and lifelong county resident. Eric swam with the Chesapeake Bay Aquatic Club for 11 years, it was his second home. During his senior year of high school, Eric swam on the Great Mills swim team, and had the best time with his team mates. Eric holds swimming records at both CBAC and GMHS. Eric was an original STEM program student, entering in the 4th grade, and was a member of the first graduating class to complete the STEM program from the beginning to end (4th – 12th).
Eric enjoyed his family, the outdoors, being in the swimming pool, hanging out with his friends and spending time with his girlfriend, Kassi Boyce. His infectious smile and quiet personality was loved by all.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 10:00 AM in St. John’s Catholic Church Hollywood, MD with Father Ray Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens Leonardtown, MD.

My heart & soul go out to you as you go from day to day without your little Angel here on earth. There are no words to heal you nor stop the tears. God has taken your perfect child to Heaven. We don’t know from day to day how life will go or how life will end. We just know that we live it to our best, be the best, be kind to all, love all, trust all, be your best at everything you do and to all that you meet…Eric was all that and so much more. We will never forget the twinkle in his eyes when He would get him out of the pool knowing he had a great swim time & the smile that could light the night sky. He had so much love in his heart & was always a winner to us. Eric gave it his ALL every time, every day. We will always Love Him as Love continues even through his crossing over. Eric was in my government class a couple years ago and I will always remember him. He was so nice to everyone and spoke with everyone in class. He was so funny at telling jokes that had wit and charisma and was helpful to everyone in our class. He was also one of the brightest not only in our class, but also of our grade. I know the time spent with him was only for a couple of years in high school but he was just a wonderful person.Thank you for letting me leave this message and I’ll send a prayer. Thanks again
Dear Joe, Laurie, and Travis: We are so so sorry to hear about Eric. There are no words that can ease your sorrow at this time. What a beautiful young man he was. I was just recently going through pictures that my mom had and I found several of the boys – one when Eric was just about a month old, a few of Travis and Eric together. There is one where you are visiting a pumpkin patch when they were about 9 and 10 and both Travis and Eric have on Maryland Terrapin shirts! They knew even then where they wanted to go to school. Our hearts ache for all of you. I can only hope that you find comfort in all of the memories you created as a family. Our prayers are with you all.

Eric was like a brother to Caleb and Mike. We are heartbroken to hear of his passing. We are thankful for the time we got to spend with him and your family. He was a remarkable young man with an infectious smile. Sending you all our love during this difficult time. He was blessed to be born to such loving and dedicated parents.

Laurie & Joe, I saw the paper briefly this morning and my heart has been heavy all day thinking about all the families and the sadness associated with the stories on the front page of the paper, not knowing you were one of the families suffering such a loss. A few moments ago, i saw Eric’s photo and all I saw was a good combination of both of you & I realized that handsome young man was your son. I am so deeply saddened & want you to know i am thinking of you and hope that the prayers & kind thoughts from all the folks you know will help make your grief a little easier to bear.
