Joseph Wade Mattingly, 88, of Leonardtown, MD passed away on November 22, 2016 in Leonardtown, MD. Born on January 30, 1928 in Compton, MD, he was the son of the late Agnes E. Bowles and John Freeman Mattingly. Wade is survived by his siblings: Mary Catherine Sipe of PA, Noema Hutzell, VA, Donald Mattingly of Leonardtown, MD, Dorothy McFadden of Leonardtown,MD and Genevieve Hunt of Mechanicsville, MD, and companion Bernie Johnson. He was preceded in death by his siblings: James Aubrey, Agnes Browning, and John Freeman Mattingly. He was a lifelong St. Mary’s County, MD resident. Wade served in the United States Army for 2 years. While serving in the Army he earned the World War II Victory Medal. Wade worked for Phil Gray Enterprises for years, and he operated the Halfway House. He was a master carpenter and retired from Paragon Builders. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 10:00 AM in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Father Gary Studniewski officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Arthur Farrell, Jay Farrell, Dale Farrell, Ronnie Farrell, Allen McFadden and Gary Farrell. Contributions may be made to St. Francis Xavier Newtown Manor Restoration Fund.
