Sandra Lorretta "Sandy" Thomas

Sandra “Sandy” Lorretta Thomas, 76, of Avenue, MD formerly from Upper Marlboro, MD passed away on November 27, 2016 at her residence. Born on August 9, 1940 in Washington, DC. She was the daughter of the late Hazel Lorretta Posey and Howard Posey. Sandy was the loving wife of Robert Paul Thomas, Sr. whom she married in Avenue, MD on October 5, 1957. Sandy is survived by her children: Kathy Ann Beach (Thomas) of Waldorf, MD, Robert Paul Thomas, Jr. of Avenue, MD, 4 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and her brother John W. Posey. Sandy was preceded in death by her siblings: Bruce H. Posey, Charles F. Posey, and George A. Posey. She graduated from Chamberlein High School in 1957. She moved to St. Mary’s County, MD in 1995, and worked for the Prince Georges County Transportation Department in Upper Marlboro, MD for 6 years retiring in 1994. Sandy was a member of the Elks Club, Moose Club and Southerwest ACC. The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 1, 2016 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 2, 2016 in Holy Angels Catholic Church Avenue, MD with Father Anthony Lickteig officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens Leonardtown, MD. Pallbearers will be: Wayne Collier, Brian Thomas, and Robert Thomas, III. Contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary’s P.O.
