Glenn Philip Holmes

glenn holmes

August 20, 1967 ~ June 13, 2018

Glenn Phillip Holmes passed away June 13, 2018, at his home in Piney Point, Md., surrounded by loving family and friends. He was 50 years old. Born August 20, 1967 in Prince George’s County to Sheila and the late Anthony Holmes, his family moved to Piney Point when he was 11 years old, where they built and ran the OCI Pub. He later established Pizza King, providing delicious food to bar patrons and neighboring families. A lifelong waterman and Merchant Marine, he worked as a Barge Captain for Vane Brothers, based out of Baltimore. He enjoyed the travel afforded to him by his job but he was always happiest at home surrounded by family and friends. He raised his children in St. Mary’s County, a proud Southern Marylander, and instilled in them a love of the water and a commitment to community and family. His pride in his children was especially evident to everyone he met. Glenn never knew an enemy. His friendship was wide-reaching and touched many in St. Mary’s County and beyond. He was generous and always the first to raise a toast for another. In addition to his mother Sheila, Glenn is survived by his devoted wife, Haide; his children Joshua, Emily and Chelsea; two grandchildren, Barrett and Aviva; his brothers Mark, Alexander and Christopher; his “brother from another mother” Jimmy Crab; loving extended family (here and abroad); and many close friends he considered family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 11:00 AM in St. George Catholic Church with Father Paul Nguyen officiating. Interment will be private.

  5. To the family,

I am so sorry for your loss. I know it must be a very difficult time for the entire family, but I want you to know that you do not face it alone. Psalm 34:18 lets us know that our Creator is near to the brokenhearted. He promises that pain, suffering and death will one day be no more (Rev 21:4) and assures us through his son, Jesus Christ, that even those lost in death have the hope of being restored to life (John 5:28,29). Please rely on him, along with the love surrounding you and precious memories shared for help to endure.
