Robert Maurice "Moe" Stone
May 7, 1957 ~ September 10, 2018
Robert Maurice “Moe” Stone, 61, of Park Hall, MD passed away on September 10, 2018, in Georgetown, DC. He was born on May 7, 1957 in Leonardtown, MD, and was the son of the late Catherine Ann Ford Stone, and Robert Louis Stone. Moe is survived by his siblings; Kelly Sonntag of Avenue, MD, Sandy Schlosser of California, MD, and Roberta Sola of St. Mary’s City, MD. He was a lifelong St. Mary’s County, MD resident and graduated from Great Mills High School in 1975. Moe was a Hazmat Coordinator for HazTrain for 23 years.
Moe began work as a young teenager at his Grandfather’s business, E.L. Stone and Son, a Southern States franchise in Park Hall. He was also helping to take care of the family farm and his love for tractors, farming and big trucks was born! After graduation Moe went to work for Griffin Carpet as a floor installer and spent many years there perfecting the trade! In 1995, he went to work with HazTrain, working with hazardous waste at Webster Field, Dahlgren and recently Patuxent River. He was working on his 23rd anniversary. Both vocations resulted in lifelong friendships that he greatly treasured.
It was in his early 20s that he started restoring vintage trucks and tractors along with his father, Robert Stone. His first project, a 1952 Ford pickup, was purchased for $75 dollars. He went on to restore a total of six trucks! He loved going to shows and was a member of the Baltimore/Washington chapter of the American Truck Historical Society (ATHS).
Add to that his family farm, which was meticulously manicured and mowed to perfection. When not working on trucks, he was mowing, trimming trees, and working hard on whatever needed to be done.
He was a quiet, hard-working man all of his life. He honored his commitments, his responsibilities and took care of his family without complaint. He was a brother, an uncle, a godfather and a friend. He was incredibly loved and will be missed every day.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 10:00 AM in Holy Face Catholic Church Great Mills, MD with Father Jerry Gamrot officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be; Billy Sonntag, Jon Sola, Bobby Lee Raley, Adam Schlosser, John Bodnar, and Chris Goddard. Honorary Pallbearers will be; Joe Gerek, Timmy Smith, Rodger Ridgell, and Evan Sola.

I have known Moe for about 23 years. I always considered him to be a very good friend. I told him that I thought of him as a gentle giant. We could talk for hours about the farm, trucks and tractors. He was a man with such great humor, big heart and would give you the shirt off his back. May his soul rest in peace. Sending prayers to the family with his passing being so brief.
My thoughts are with you during this difficult time. The road of life can be bumpier than we ever imagined. Take care of each other during this sorrowful time. Love, Cousin Arlene

I am so sorry for your loss. I am a BW Chapter member and my contact with Robert was thru the club meetings and events. I enjoyed what little time we had and he made me feel like I had known him much longer. He will be missed.
Kelly, Sandy and Roberta,
What a great loss. Moe was a gentle giant who was one of the most talented individuals I’ve ever met. I have such great memories of hanging out, playing baseball, riding in the fields and woods in the car with the top cut off.
Moe had a kind heart that he didn’t always like to show off – he was truly a great man who will be missed.
Kelly, Sandy, and Roberta,
I was shocked and saddened to hear about Moe. It’s hard to imagine him gone, and so suddenly and at such an early age too.
I have many fond memories of all the fun we had as kids, and of course Moe was always in the middle of everything we did. We had a great little neighborhood gang, didn’t we? Those baseball and football games were crazy, and the insane antics driving around in those old cars is something I’ll never forget. Those are the kinds of things that you can only do when growing up in the country, and I’m forever grateful that we had that amazing environment to grow up in. But looking back I’m also amazed that we didn’t kill ourselves.
Moe liked to act tough but we all knew he was a good guy with a golden heart. I can’t remember him ever doing anything that was mean or unfair. I do remember us laughing at his temper tantrums, although they were usually directed at inanimate objects like cars and tractors.
In later years I always made a point of stopping by to see him any time I was back in the area, which wasn’t often enough. It was always nice to sit back with him and reminisce about the good old days and of course to talk about old cars. I’ll miss him even though our visits were few and far between. But at least we have memories.
Please let me know if there’s anything I can do. I would have attended his services if I was in the US, but I’m stuck in India for the rest of this week and can’t get back to the US in time. It would have been nice to pay my respects in person and also to see you. Please let me know how you’re doing, OK?
I am honored and blessed to have had Moe as my cousin. Remembering his kind and gentle soul will forever remain in our hearts. He was truly a blessing in my life and I will miss him. My Deepest condolences
Some of my best childhood memories come from visits to your home and the fun we all had running from the cattle. Moe was such a sweetheart and so talented. My heart aches for you all for such a great loss.
Roberta and Family – We are so very sorry for your loss. Moe was one of a kind and will be greatly missed. We will keep all you in our thoughts and prayers!! – Steve and Corey.
To the family:
“And the last enemy, death, is to be brought to nothing.” – 1 Corinthians 15:26
Please hold on to this hope promised to us by our Creator, especially during this difficult time. He never fails and He cares deeply for you. With this promise he has also given the hope of a resurrection to life everlasting on earth through his son, Jesus Christ (John 5:28,29). I hope that these thoughts bring you a measure of comfort along with the love surrounding you and the wonderful memories you shared.
