  6. Man, I am devastated today to see this.

My name is Pete Christy and I’m a TV SportsCaster in Lubbock. Texas.

For the past 6-7 years I have wanted to track down a teacher who impacted my life.

For me it was Robert Harned.

Each year around graduation I tried to find him, but no luck.

Tonight I’m speaking at a graduation here in West Texas. I just decided to look up Mr. Harned again and came across this. I’m crushed and send prayers to his family and friends.

I’m gonna leave here what I would have time him hoping it brings some joy to his family and friends.

42 years ago, Yes 42 years ago, growing up in Lexington Park Maryland I was a student at Spring Ridge Middle School.

I wanted to be a TV Sportscaster. Mr. Harned, (I’ve remember his name all these years) took an interest in me and encouraged me to follow my dreams. He tested my sports knowledge and we would have fun bets on games for a dime or quarter. I won almost every time!

He kept encouraging me and telling me to practice speaking and gaining confidence.

We would bet dollars later in the school year and Mr. Harned finally beat me one time. He framed his dollar in the class.

Mr. Harned had such an impact on my life. I went on to Syracuse University for broadcast journalism. I have worked in tv jobs In Washington DC, Oregon, Texas and Philadelphia.

I wanted Mr. Harned to know I am living my dream. A few years ago I called some private school somewhere in Maryland where a Robert Harned worked. School had just ended and they told me Mr. Harned had just retired from teaching. I’m not sure if that was him

I called a phone number in Mechanicsville one time that was for a Robert Harned but no one answered the phone.

This morning I looked again and tears run down my face as I find this!

THANK YOU ROBERT HARNED for believing in me and pushing me to do what I love

Rest In Peace! Prayers to his family!
