Richard Michael Delaney, Sr.
October 12, 1940 ~ June 18, 2019
Richard Michael Delaney Sr, 78, of Hollywood, MD received his angel wings & halo on June 18, 2019. The epitome of the most easy going and kicked back person you would have ever known was born on October 12, 1940 to Rose & Ralph Delaney Sr in Woodbury, NJ. “Big Rich” (aka “GPa” in family texting circles) grew up in Williamstown, NJ. He enlisted in the US NAVY in 1958 and served this beautiful country for 22 years, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in 1980 and having logged over 5000 hours of flight time. He was proud to boast that his only time served onboard a NAVY ship was as a guest on a dependents cruise.
Big Rich married his loving wife Joan 55 years ago, and they had a son, Rich Jr. Together they traveled the world in typical NAVY fashion, before settling in St Mary’s County, MD, God’s country.
GPa had three grandsons, Shaun, Alex, and Jack, that he absolutely loved and adored. He spent countless hours attending hundreds of soccer matches & ice hockey games, and tournaments, cheering on his boys.
As an avid sports fan, he loved his Packers and NASCAR. As a professional, he loved the Military and anything that could fly. As a person, he loved his family and his many, many friends.
Rich is survived by his wife Joan, son Rich Jr & wife Lori, grandsons Shaun, Alex, and Jack (all from Hollywood, MD), and his brother Ralph Jr (Williamstown, NJ).
AMHC Delaney’s interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery on a date to be announced. A celebration of life in his honor will be on August 10, 2019 at Summerseat Farm in Mechanicsville, MD.
A Graveside Service will be held on August 29, 2019 at 9:00 AM in Arlington National Cemetery Arlington, VA.
