Helen Juanita Polani,93, of McLean, VA formerly of Lanham, MD, passed away on October 25, 2021 in Clearwater, FL. She was born on April 23, 1928 in Washington, DC and was the loving daughter of the late Nellie Grace Gowen and Joseph Patrick Gowen. Helen is survived by her children Lawrence M. Ridgeway of FL, Christine A. Schuhart of Mechanicsville, MD, eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her children Helen J. Lawrence, David W. Ridgeway, Daniel Ridgeway, and Marcia Ridgeway, as well as her siblings, Joseph Gowen, James Gowen, Nellie Werking, and Elsie Graves. She worked for the federal government as a surgical secretary and loved to travel.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 4, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD where a funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel with Deacon Joe Lloyd officiating. Interment will follow in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Bushwood, MD. Serving as pallbearers will be Mathew D. Schuhart, Griffin A. Schuhart, Bernard L. Copsey, Jr., James D. Copsey, Raymond A. Copsey, Jr., and Nicholas A. Morris. Honorary pallbearers will be Aidan M. Morris, Bernard L. Copsey, III, and Trey Murray.
