Clyde Thomas "Tommy" Bentley, Jr.
April 29, 1961 ~ April 29, 2023
Clyde Thomas Bentley, Jr., “Tommy”, of Hollywood, MD, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at the age of 62. Tommy was born on April 29, 1961 in Jacksonville, FL to the late Clyde Thomas Bentley, Sr. and the late Gloria Jean (Lettau) Bentley. He is survived by his son, David W. Bentley (Wendy) of Hollywood, MD, his siblings Timothy Bentley (Irene) of Mechanicsville, MD, Tina Heisner (Bob) of Hollywood, MD, Bill Bentley (Kim) of Hollywood, MD, Barbara Lising (Raymon) of Fleming Island, FL, and Mary Ellen Ortiz (Santiago) or San Diego, CA, two grandchildren, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Tommy moved to St. Mary’s County, MD in 1970 with his family from Sunnyvale, CA, where he remained for most of his life, with the exception of joining the Merchant Marines through the Harry Lundeberg School of Seamanship. He talked of his time in the Merchant Marines with pride and often thought of returning. Tommy worked at several garages throughout St. Mary’s County, including Hewitt’s Service Center, Driveline, Don’s Sunoco, and, presently, Halsey’s Automotive as an automotive mechanic.
Tommy loved motor sports, NASCAR and NHRA, and racing in general, as both a spectator and participant. He especially enjoyed his time as part of the mud-racing team of “Hot Tuna”, which he did for many years. Tommy also enjoyed riding his pride and joy, his Harley Davidson. He was a very hard-working man and loved spending time with family and friends. Tommy would light up a room with humor. He will definitely be missed by all.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 12, 2023 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD, where a funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Matthew Tate officiating. Interment will be private.
