Joyce Ann Schirmacher
June 28, 1936 ~ July 7, 2023
Joyce was reunited with the love her life, David Schirmacher on 7/7/23. They met in the US Navy and married in Jacksonville, Florida in 1958. She was born 6/28/36 in Jeffersonville Indiana and was the 2nd child of 8 babies. She was the first child to survive birth from Willie Marie and Kalfus Ervin Yager. She retired from the St. Mary's school system as a teacher's assistant , substitute teacher and part-time until covid. Her car license plate frame read " Starve with dignity, be a teacher."
She was a proud American and would only see the good in people, always willing to help. She loved holidays as those would bring the family together for great food, fun and reminiscing. She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her younger siblings , Karolyn, Kay and Kenneth , her sons Steve , Scott and John, and granddaughter Lily. She was preceded in death by her husband Dave 12/2010 and her daughter Susan 10/1963.
Funeral arrangements will be private.

Dear Steve, Scott and John,
My sincerest condolences to all of you on the loss of “Momma” Joyce. She was a very special lady to me during my childhood and beyond. We played many days in your back-yard under her watchful eye. I will always hold close to my heart the memories of your Mom. What a beautiful lady inside and out.
Much love to all of you.

Our sincere condolences to your family. Joyce was a very special friend whom we loved dearly. Her sense of humor and her loving personality was a blessing from God. We will miss her, but know that she is at peace with her Lord.

Joyce was a very special friend to me. I met her when she substituted for me at Carver Elementary. I never had to worry when Joyce was in my room. We became dear friends and shared a love of craft shows, antique shops, and loved catching up over a good cup of coffee. I will miss her and the times we shared. May she rest in peace.
John, Scott and Steve and the rest of the family. I am so very sorry to hear about your Mother. I know you all will miss her greatly!
Your all in my thoughts and prayers in this difficult time. May God comfort you and give you all Peace and a calm heart to get through this sad time.
Love,
Barbara Lising {Bentley}
My sincere condolences to all of “Aunt “Joyce’s family. My Dad, Lloyd Kauffman, Bob McDaniel and “uncle “Dave were the best of friends The three of them did so much together. I remember as a little girl going to their home many times. I reunited with “Aunt” Joyce a few years ago at Food Lion while shopping and we spent almost an hour reminiscing.
Rest In Peace
John,
I’m sorry to hear about your mother’s passing. You know she was dear to me. Meeting her and your father through our Sunday breakfasts at the Firehouse. I would run into her different places around town. ALWAYS there with a hug and smile. Rest in paradise sweet Joyce tell David I said hi and I’ve got the senior discount for him. Hugs to your family.
Joyce–I already miss our phone chats, going out for lunch and going grocery shopping. Your picture should be in the dictionary next to the definition of “friend”. While you are already sorely missed, I’m happy that you are reunited with your husband.
My sincere condolences to all…..
Gosh, so very sorry to hear of Joyce’s passing. So many years ago we consulted every week on softball scores. So many dear friends from those days now going. My sincerest condolences to the family. Many blessings.
Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ms. Schirmacher. Ms. Schirmacher always welcomed everyone she met and made them feel like family. Every Summer, she planned outings for everyone that worked at GW Carver (past and present). She really cared about us all. She will be missed deeply.
Very sorry to hear of Joyce’s passing. Such a lovely person.
