Helen Cecelia Thompson, 76, of Park Hall, MD, passed away on July 25, 2023 in Baltimore, MD. Born on January 7, 1947 in St. Mary’s County, MD, she was the daughter of the late Mary Rebecca Shade and the late William A. Shade, Sr. Helen was the wife of John F. Thompson, whom she married on January 25, 1975 in St. Cecilia Catholic Church, St. Mary’s City, MD. She is survived by her son Kevin M. Thompson, her siblings Ann Shearn of Petersburg, VA, George Shade of OH, Gladys White of Port Republic, MD, as well as two grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her siblings William Shade, Jr., Ellen Shade, Doris Rebecca Shade, and Lillian Shade. Helen attended St. Peter Claver Elementary School, and then went on to graduate from Cardinal Gibbons High School in Ridge, MD. She earned two degrees from St. Mary’s College of Maryland, a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Arts. Helen was a Periodical Technician at St. Mary’s College of Maryland Library for 37 years, retiring in 2011. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 4, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in St. Cecilia Catholic Church, St. Mary’s City, MD, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM with Father Larry Swink officiating. Interment will follow at St. James Catholic Cemetery, Lexington Park, MD. Condolences may be made to the family at www.mgfh.com.   3. My condolences to all of Helen’s family. Helen and I worked together in the library at St. Mary’s from 1992 until she retired. I learned much from her quiet presence. The library changed a lot while she was there, and she changed with it. We celebrated her contributions when she retired. I appreciated and admired her. May her memory be a blessing.

Enjoyed her at all of family gatherings especially the photo that was posted at mom birthday party Mom enjoyed her pleasant so much she loved all of those girls like her daughters. Her dedication to learning and commitment working at the College is noteworthy. Fond memories of our younger days as students and scholars. Peace and comfort to all.
