Russell William “Russ/RB/Pops” Brunk, 94, passed away on September 23, 2023 in Dameron, MD. Born on December 20, 1928 in Dott, WV, he was the loving son of the late Dorothy Maude Brunk and the late Albert William Brunk. Russ was the loving husband of the late Mikiye Brunk, who he married in Honolulu, HI on May 10, 1952, and who preceded him in death on August 12, 1984. Russ is survived by his children Russelyn (Vicki) and Carl Nix of Middleburg, FL and David Brunk of Dameron, MD, his siblings Maude (Dolores) Brunk of Midlothian, VA, Charles and Delcie Brunk of Leavenworth, KS, and Kathleen and Gary Goad of Wirtz, VA, sister-in-law Lena Brunk of Athens, WV, one grandchild, and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his son Michael Brunk and his siblings Helen Brunk, Evelyn Fortner, Joyce Summerville, Douglas Brunk, and Larry (Wayne) Brunk. Russ graduated from Princeton High School in 1946, and was a photographer and head of Training Aids for MWR Training Facility, NAS Patuxent River for 21 years, retiring in 1989. He served in the U.S. Navy for 21 years from September 1, 1947 to January 30, 1968, earning the rank of Photographers Mate Senior CPO. During this time, he was stationed at Pensacola, FL, San Diego, CA, Adak, AK, Pearl Harbor, HI, Norfolk, VA, Chincoteague, VA, NAVSTA Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico, Atsugi, Japan and Patuxent River, MD. Russ moved to St. Mary’s County, MD from Norfolk, VA in 1960 and was a member of the American Legion. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at 10:00 AM in Arlington National Cemetery Arlington, VA.
