October 16, 1930 ~ April 30, 2024

Annie Cecelia Carroll, 93 of Lexington Park, Maryland, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on April 30, 2024. She was the youngest of six children, born on October 16, 1930 to the late Charles and Maggie (Barber) Hill Somerville. Annie received her education at St. Peter Claver Catholic School and Cardinal Gibbons High School. She excelled in academics and was valedictorian of the graduating class of 1948. After graduating from high school, Annie held various domestic positions at the Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, and Harry Lundeberg School of Seamanship in Piney Point. In 1967, she obtained a domestic position at the Montgomery Ward Catalog Store in Lexington Park. She was a hard worker, dependable, and willing to learn, and that determination helped her climb the corporate ladder, from cleaning the store to becoming the store credit manager until the catalog store closed in 1985, with 18 years of dedicated service. From there, she went to work at the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Child Development Center at the Naval Air Station, Patuxent River as a child care attendant, and after 10 years of service, retired in 1995. They were blessed with eight children and celebrated over 71 years of marriage, symbolizing true love, purity, rarity, and strength prior to John Francis, Sr. passing on April 20, 2022. Annie was an active, faithful servant and lifelong parishioner at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, St. Mary’s City, Maryland (formerly St. James Catholic Church). Over the years, she ironed altar linens, cleaned the church, served as a lector, Eucharistic minister, choir member, parish pastoral council member, President of the Ladies of Charity, and gave holy communion to the homebound parishioners. She helped with the Wrapping Arms ‘Round Many (WARM) Program, a winter emergency shelter program for homeless individuals in St. Mary’s County. She volunteered at St. Cecilia’s Food Pantry and prepared meals for the Three Oaks Center Emergency Shelter in Lexington Park, Maryland, until her health declined. Annie was an avid reader, enjoyed socializing with family and friends, family gatherings, gambling casinos, bingo, yard sales, listening to gospel music, watching baseball, and cheering on the Washington Commanders/Redskins.
