William Robert Woodburn Sr., “Tommy”, 88, of Leonardtown, MD, passed peacefully at his residence on May 16, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on January 31, 1936, in Pearson, MD, he was the son of the late Albert L. Woodburn and Bertha A. (Stone) Woodburn. In addition to his parents, William is preceded in death by his loving wife, Ann Marie Woodburn, “Bebe”, whom he married on April 11, 1955, his son-in-law, Johnny Marshall, and his 11 siblings, Edna Bell (Paul), Bus Woodburn (Hilda), Kenny Woodburn (Ruth), Elaine Ryan (Harry), Amy Tiburzi (Jim), Edwin Woodburn (Bobbie), Ralph Woodburn (Evelyn), Creighton Woodburn (Anne), Raymond Woodburn (Mary Agnes), Millie Babcock (Bob), and Audrey Simmons (Paul). He is survived by his five children, Tommy Woodburn (Natalie) of Leonardtown, MD, Gennie Marshall of Chaptico, MD, Laura Superior (Dennis) of Leonardtown, MD, Bernie Woodburn (Sharon) of Leonardtown, MD, Peggy Cianflone (Mark) of Hollywood, MD, ten grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and his sister, Mary Hughes (Roy), of Kenosha, Wisconsin. A lifelong St. Mary's County, MD resident, he enjoyed farming, gardening, caring for his animals, listening to bluegrass music, playing cards, and watching sports, especially enjoying his children and grandchildren’s athletic events. In younger years, he played softball and was inducted into the Softball Hall of Fame in 1987. A devoted Catholic, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus St. Michaels Chapter and a support member for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. He took immense pride in the work that he accomplished over the years as a Master Carpenter, Road Constructor, and Heavy Equipment Excavation Operator Foreman, developing positive structures for this community. However, his greatest love was for his wife and family, and he will forever be affectionately remembered as “Paw and Pop.” The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 30, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 31, 2024 at 11:00 AM in Holy Face Catholic Church, Great Mills, MD, with Rev. Scott Holmer officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jason Deaderick, Joshua Deaderick, Casey Woodburn, Mark Starnes, Corey Woodburn, Mark Cianflone and his granddaughters T.J. Redmond, Taylor Superior, Sarah Woodburn, and Kara Cianflone. Honorary pallbearers will be his great grandchildren, Waylon Woodburn, Audrey Woodburn, Tucker Redmond, Dexter Redmond, Daniel Deaderick, Kylie Deaderick, Laina Deaderick, Cassi Deaderick, Tommy Deaderick, Trent Starnes, and Aurora Starnes.
