Hubert E. Robinson
January 16, 1935 ~ June 16, 2024
Mr. Hubert Earnest Robinson, of St. Mary's Nursing Center, Leonardtown, MD, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at the age of 89. Born January 16, 1935, in Haralson County, Georgia, Hubert was the second son of the late William (Cliff) and Ruthie Mae (Ruth) Wright Robinson.
Hubert and his two brothers, Cecil Robinson and Marlin Robinson, were raised on a farm where hard work was expected. Cliff sharecropped until he was able to buy his own small farm in Burwell near Carrolton, Georgia where he and his sons built the house that is still occupied on that land.
After high school, Hubert married Sarilou Spruill (married 1956, divorced 1995). For a time, Hubert worked for Lockheed in Marietta, Georgia helping them build the C-130 Hercules Airlifter for the United States Air Force and during this time he trained to be a sheet metal draftsman. He worked as a draftsman for Barron Fabricators from May 1966 to April 2000 when he retired. He enjoyed going to flea markets with his brother-in-law Farris Spruill and was a life-long member of the Shiloh Methodist Church in Carrollton, Georgia.
In addition to being a hard-worker, Hubert was a quiet man, easy-going, conservative, humble, loyal and morally straight. He loved his sons and grandchildren, and even in his old age when his memory was failing, his great-grandchildren were his greatest delight. Hubert was preceded in death by his parents and brothers.
He is survived by his sons, Brian E. Robinson (Alison) of Leonardtown, Maryland, and Steven M. Robinson of Dunn Loring, Virginia, six grandchildren, John (Emily), Kathleen Torrey (Nathaniel), Joseph, Ryan, Sydney, Sean, and thirteen great grandchildren.
Hubert’s family is having a Memorial Service at Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home in Leonardtown, MD at 10 am on Tuesday, June 25th.
The family will also receive friends at the Rainwater Funeral Home in Bowden, GA on Saturday, June 29th from one o’clock until two pm. A Funeral Service will follow at two fifteen in the Rainwater Chapel, Mr. Scott Eason of Shiloh Methodist Church officiating.
