Arlene Marie Carter

Arlene Marie Carter, 69 of Lexington Park, MD, passed away at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital, Leonardtown, MD surrounded by her loving family on June 26, 2024. She was the eighth child of fourteen children, born on January 28, 1955 to the late George Henry and Margaret Madeline Fenwick.
Arlene received her education at St. Peter Claver Catholic School and Great Mills High School, graduating class of 1974. After graduating from high school, she went on to earn her certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). As a CNA, she worked at various nursing centers to include St. Mary’s, Cedar Lane and Calvert County. She transitioned into home healthcare, providing services not only for her clients but for her family too. She was very conscientious in serving with dignity, respect and true compassion. After 46 years of dedicated service, she retired in 2020.
Arlene was united in holy matrimony to her high school sweetheart, Robert Eugene Carter on July 21,1979 at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church, St. Inigoes, MD. From this union they were blessed with three beautiful children and celebrated 44 years of marriage, symbolizing true love, purity, rarity and strength.
Arlene was an active, faithful servant and lifelong parishioner at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, St. Mary’s City, MD (formerly St. James Catholic Church). She served in various capacities, cleaning the church, and was a member of the Ladies of Charity. She volunteered with the Wrapping Arms ‘Round Many (WARM) Program and prepared meals for Three Oaks Center Emergency Shelter in Lexington Park, MD.
Arlene loved to have a good time and enjoyed being the event planner and decorator for family gatherings. She also enjoyed cooking, shopping (always picking up random gifts for her children and grandchildren), going on trips, spending time with family and friends…letting the good times roll. She was a great listener, a caregiver, very patient and would always give you advice, “whether you asked or not.”
Arlene will be remembered as a kind, compassionate and generous person, who made a difference in the lives of so many. Her legacy of love and service will live on through her family, friends and the countless clients whose lives she touched.
Arlene leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted husband, Robert Carter; children, Steven Carter, Yvette Johnson (Adrian) and Brandon Carter (Marley); grandchildren, Jaylen Johnson, Tyeson and Mason Carter; brothers, Robert Fenwick, Sr. (Dottie), Philip Fenwick (Allison) and Charles Fenwick (Glenda); sisters, Agnes Fenwick, Brenda Butler (Darnell), Alma Elaine Somerville (Pernell, Sr.), Phyllis Stevens and Cathy Bush (Tommy); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; godchildren, Pernell Somerville, Jr., Crystal Banks and Briana Hall; best friend, Pamela LeGrant, Eucharistic Minister/Prayer Partner, Elizabeth Sweeney and devoted nieces, Yvonne Brooks and Agnes Delores Jones.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, George Emerick Fenwick and Joseph Norman Fenwick; three sisters, Margaret “Peggy” Carroll, Mary “Patsy” Miles and Mildred Fenwick; sisters-in-law, Mary Margaret Woods and Queenie Fenwick; brothers-in-law, William Carter, Bob Woods, James Edward Carroll, James Miles and William Stevens; nephews, Wayne Clinton, Sr., Joseph Clinton, Marvin Fenwick and Lionell Somerville.
Serving as Pallbearers: Robert Fenwick, Sr., Philip Fenwick, Charles Fenwick, Adrian Johnson, James Smith, Jr. and Pernell Somerville, Jr.
Serving as Honorary Pallbearers: Jaylen Johnson, Tyeson Carter, Mason Carter, Crystal Banks and Briana Hall.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 8, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, St Mary’s City, MD. Where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM with Rev. John Patrick Tindana officiating. Interment will follow in St. James Catholic Cemetery, Lexington Park, MD.

Dear Carter Family: So sorry to here of the loss of Arlene. She was always so kind and thoughtful whenever I met her at church. My prayers are for her quick entry into her heavenly reward.
