Margaret Hughes "Marge" Campion

Margaret “Marge” Hughes Campion, 96, of California, MD, formerly of Great Mills and Leonardtown, MD, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2024, in California, MD, with her loving family by her side. She was born on June 10,1928, in Harrison, NJ, to the late Joseph Hughes and Margaret Murray. Marge graduated from Harrison High School in 1946 and began working for the Bell Telephone Company. On May 12, 1951, Marge married John “Jack” Campion, Jr. at Holy Cross Church, Harrison, NJ. Together they celebrated 53 years of marriage before his passing on August 13, 2004. They moved from Clifton, NJ to St. Mary’s County, MD in 1968 and made their home at White Point Beach. She was a devout Catholic and a member of Our Lady’s Church at Medley’s Neck and she also attended Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Marge was employed by St. Mary’s County Public Schools as a Para-Professional and retired after 22 years of service. Following her retirement, Marge enjoyed spending quality time with her grandchildren, gardening, volunteering at local food pantries and soup kitchens, and traveling to visit family members. Marge is survived by her children, Margaret Sawyer of Piney Point, MD and Patrick Campion of Rockville, MD; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her daughter, Aileen Campion, and son, John J. Campion III. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady’s Catholic Church, Leonardtown, MD on November 18, 2024, at 11:00 with Rev. Joseph Cwik officiating. Interment will follow at Our Lady’s Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Christopher Frazier, Gary Hill, Ken Roof, and Les Pearson.
