March 3, 1945 ~ February 13, 2025

Cecilia Mary Hoffman passed away on February 13, 2025, in Clinton, Maryland, surrounded by her devoted husband and loving sons. She was born on March 3, 1945, in Limestone, Maine, to Hope and Joseph Obar. Ceci grew up in Limestone with her brother, Raymond, and many beloved cousins. In 1979, she met James Hoffman at St. Louis Catholic Church in Limestone. They married in the same church on June 27, 1980, beginning 45 years of love and devotion. Together, they raised two sons, Anthony and Matthew, who were the heart of Ceci’s life. She dedicated herself fully to her family, sharing her Catholic faith and caring deeply for those around her. Ceci was known for her comforting presence —a source of unwavering love, quiet strength, and gentle encouragement. She found joy in crafting, spending countless hours creating heartfelt gifts for loved ones. Her faith was central to her life, and she was an active member of her church, always willing to lend a hand, offer a kind word, and among the first to keep you in her prayers. Ceci welcomed her daughters-in-law, Jennifer Huynh (wife of Anthony) and Amanda Hoffman (wife of Matthew), with a warm heart and open arms. Her greatest joys were her grandsons, Daniel (son of Anthony and Jenn) and Michael (son of Matthew and Amanda), who brought her endless happiness. She is survived by her loving husband, James, her sons, Anthony and Matthew, and her cherished grandchildren, Daniel and Michael. Ceci will be laid to rest on March 13, 2025, in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Leonardtown, Maryland. Her love, faith, and kindness will be forever remembered. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 12, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 13, 2025 at 9:30 AM in St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Leonardtown, MD, with Father David Beaubien officiating. Interment will follow in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery Leonardtown, MD.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Ceci was an example of a faith well lived at St. Aloysius. We are so grateful for her kindness to our family when we made our military move to Leonardtown. She was a regular volunteer to lead the CCD and other family programs at church-all with grace and a humble heart.
She made time to connect with people and made the church an extended family for us. We remember her gift of a homemade quilt for our daughter’s first birthday (she had been adopted from overseas just two months earlier). We felt loved by Ceci. Our prayers of comfort to the Hoffman family.

  2. When I left middle school, 8th grade, Cecilia bought me my dress to wear for our ceremony. She was always very kind hearted.

  3. I remember when Mrs Hoffman came home from the store and said, “What did you do?” She could smell the can of spam we blew up in the backyard.

  4. I worked with Ceci at Loring AFB in the early 1970s. I was a young airman’s wife and far from home. Ceci was kind, warm, and a friend. I have thought of her often over the years and I’m so happy to hear she married and raised a family. I thought of her again today and found her obituary. Please know that she touched me so long ago and I’ll never forget her caring for others. Susan Kennedy, Deerfield, Illinois

  5. I worked with Cece at Loring AFB in AAFES from 1979 – 1981. Cece was always encouraging this 19 year old and opened her house to me and Malcomb an airman in the Air Force. Cece and her mother were wonderful cooks and had us for dinner on several occasions. Today I was thinking about her and saddened when I discovered she recently passed. I know how in love Cece was with Jim and adored her family. Cece has a seat in heaven and will be able to tell her dad, yes the men really did land on the moon. Miss you Cece.
