Rose Cecelia Nelson, 76, of Colton’s Point, MD, passed away peacefully at home on May 26, 2025, after a lengthy illness. Born on September 11, 1948, in Leonardtown, MD, Rose was the daughter of the late Joseph Leonard Dingee and Agnes Ruby Williams Dingee. Rose married the love of her life, Francis Benton Nelson, Jr., on June 24, 1967. Together they shared many wonderful years until his passing on April 14, 2010. Rose is survived by her daughter, Barbara Rose Nelson. She was the loving sister to Eleanor Morgan, Ann Morgan, Lois Morgan (Archie), and Debbie Dingee. She was preceded in death by her brother, Billy Dingee. Rose graduated from Chopticon High School in 1966. She worked at St. Mary’s Hospital from September 1966 to May 2017 and loved every minute of it; she loved people and loved helping people. Rose was a wonderful homemaker, sister, wife, mother, and friend. She was a nature lover and never missed a bird, butterfly, deer, turkey, turtle, eagle, or cat that crossed her path. A stray animal could not get past her that she would not pamper. We can’t forget how much she loved watching the weather, trees, leaves, and birds. Rose loved planting flowers and gardening, as well as celebrating at birthday, family, work, and church gatherings. Rose will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD, where a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel with Deacon Joe Lloyd officiating. Interment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, www.stjude.org/donate. 1. Rose Nelson was a Beautiful person inside and out. Rose Had the most Plesant and Welcoming telephone voice when you were calling St.Mary’s Hospital. There has not yet been a Welcoming Voice to match hers. May She Rest in Peace. Lv Ann Bowles

  2. Lois, sorry for the loss of your sister. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

  3. Rose I use to love to see you when I worked at St Mary’s Hospital on the Switchboard. You were the best trainer and always so kind. I see your sister Debbie and I will keep her straight for you, jk she is wonderful too.

  4. Rose was one of my first trainers for the switch board at SMH. She taught me all the “good” things I needed to know. We had many laughs and she loved a great joke. She knew many people and always called them by name. When she asked how they were doing, she inquired about the kids and spouse too, Also calling them by name. She rarely had a name wrong. Her smile and laughter was quite contagious. I miss her hugs and stories. The one thing she did do… survived training me. What a task!!!! Rest in peace and give hugs to your honey… watch over us and we will continue to share your stories… and laughter… and jokes… until we meet again!!! Hugs to all the family…
