William Dale Gray

William Dale Gray – 59 Lusby, Maryland Most knew him simply as Dale, a name given in honor of his late father, Jim Gray’s, best friend. Dale was the youngest of five children and endured both the challenges and benefits of being the baby of the family. He is survived by his loving mother, Evalena Gray, and siblings Allie, Jamie, Rena and Tyler. Dale’s life was also filled with an abundance of extended family and gatherings were always large, lively and filled with love – moments he truly cherished. Dale spent his early years in Viriginia Beach, later relocating to Southern Maryland as a teenager – a move that shaped many of the lifelong relationships he would come to treasure. His work life began in the family optical business, where co-workers fondly recall his beautiful singing voice, often heard rising above the noise of lab machinery. Dale experimented with business ownership and operated both a pool hall and optical store. He ultimately found a deep career satisfaction in security technology, thriving for over 15 years as a top government contractor, where his skill, integrity and dedication were widely respected. Dale was most proud of his role as a father and grandfather. He is survived by his daughter Shelby Haile, mother of his beloved grandsons Hunter and Harrison; his son Eric Gray: and his daughter Kara Gray, with whom he was delightfully sharing in making plans for her upcoming wedding. Dale also built a loving home and life with his devoted partner Kerry Murphy Barth, and shared a close bond with her daughter Kayce who held a special place in his heart. They shared in his love of family pets, classic cars and the joy of hosting the annual Thanksgiving feast – a tradition that was always a large gathering and filled their home with great food and laughter. More recently, Dale found fulfillment in volunteering at a local food bank and giving back to his local community. In his honor, his family encourages others to fill his vacant spot by donating their time and resources to the Solomons Mission Center, 14454 Solomons Island Road S, Solomons, Maryland. A celebration of life will be held at a future date to share memories and honor Dale’s life. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I am sitting here in my kitchen (writing/posting this memory) and still can’t believe Dale is no longer with us. Dale and I were very good friends, pool playing buddies, and biker brothers together in the late 90’s and through the mid 2000’s. Dale and all his family were so good to me and my children when I was going through a very rough and challenging time in my life. We shared many memories and experiences……..our love of sushi, playing pool, motorcycle riding and brotherhood. I would have to say he was the brother I never had…..I drifted away from Southern MD due to some pretty rough family/child custody issues in the mid 2000’s and ended up back in Western PA, San Jose CA, Wilmington NC and Waynesboro GA (where I live now in retirement) but we stayed in touch every few months over the years. Enough of all this……to the memories……biking to the Smoke-out rally in NC (and meeting Indian Larry) and Dale getting a flat tire in the middle of nowhere NC on a Sunday on the way home (and an owner of a bike shop stopping to help us out – God was looking out for us that day)…….many late nights in his garage listening and singing to music over many ‘cold ones’…….our mutual love of Jim Carrey movies – in fact we had a catch phrase “BBT” from one of his moves which stood for “Bumble Bee Tuna”…….Dale riding over to my house when I got a new Harley in February one year and we rode to the old Pizza place/bar in Lusby (Guidos, was it?) in 17F (we got some free drinks that night – people thought we were nuts and they were right!)……so many more memories too……I have gone on too long……..I look forward to seeing you again old friend. “BBT” for ever. 2. We are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of our colleague and friend, Dale. In his year and a half with DDG as an Information Cyber Security Analyst, Dale made a lasting impact not only through his professionalism and dedication, but also through his kindness, quiet strength (and sometimes outspoken defense for what he believes is the right thing to do), and unwavering integrity. He approached every challenge with calm determination and always found time to support those around him. His presence will be sorely missed, and his contributions will not be forgotten. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. Mark
