January 8, 1960 ~ December 22, 2024

Trueman “Monty” Cross Slingluff Montfort Jr., 64, passed away on December 22, 2024, at his home in Bushwood, MD. Born on January 8, 1960 in Washington, D.C., Monty was the proud son of the late great Trueman “Tuny” Cross Slingluff Montfort and Colletta Joan Dorr. Monty graduated from Queen Anne School in Upper Marlboro, MD, in 1978 shortly before realizing where his true passions lied – music. Monty loved rock n roll – especially Led Zeppelin – and was born with an ear for music and a gift for mixing sound. He leveraged his talents to become one of the best, most well-regarded audio engineers in the music industry. He worked with artists like Child’s Play, Michael Bolton, Kenny G, Whitney Houston, and other Grammy award-winners. Monty was so skilled behind the soundboard, his career took him across the globe. Over the course of 45 years, he became a citizen of the world, traversing dozens of countries across every continent. But through it all, he was adamant there was no place like home. Raised on the Chesapeake Bay, Monty’s happy place was out on his boat, and he made sure his family was given the gift of a life on the water. An engaged, loving, and fiercely devoted father, he dedicated every summer to teaching his kids how to swim, how to drive a boat, how to spot a sandbar, and how to get knocked around in an inner tube traveling at the speed of light. He taught them that dogs really are man’s best friend, and to always treat them as such. He set a new bar for what it meant to be a husband and father, always fast to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders so that his family wouldn’t have to. For them, Monty moved mountains like they were hills and parted oceans like they were ponds. A man of character and integrity, he had a sharp mind and an even sharper tongue. He was effortlessly hilarious, a goofball who loved to pull lighthearted pranks and scare kids with tales of the One Fingered Green Man. His inner strength was so deep, he never lost his childlike sense of fun or adventure, no matter what life threw at him. There was a light in his eyes that kept shining, like a star that can’t wait for the night. Monty is survived by his wife of 40 years, Tammy Hixon-Montfort, to whom he was a savior and hero; his daughter, Elysa Anne Montfort, to whom he gave the entire world and his soul with it; his son, Trueman Cross Slingluff Montfort III, for whom his heart sung a tune he had never heard before; his son-in-law, Brian Corl; his two brothers, Dennis and Marc Montfort; and the music he helped make for millions around the world. He will be deeply missed, and loved, forever. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 26, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. Where a Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Chris Whetlor officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Monty’s memory can be made as a donation to Lab Rescue LRCP. “We are eagles of one nest, The nest is in our soul.”
