Thelma Pickell Cusic

Thelma Pickell Cusic, 91, of Leonardtown, MD, passed away on October 12, 2025 at her home. Born on July 20, 1934 in Quarryville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Blanche Myers Kreider Pickell and Carl Winfield Pickell. Thelma was the loving wife of 55 years to the late Joseph Lawrence “Boots” Cusic whom she married on May 20, 1967 in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Compton, MD. Thelma is survived by her nephew Scott Brady Pickell of Leonardtown, MD, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her siblings Arlene Pickell Tennison, and Leigh Kreider Pickell.
She was a resident of St. Mary’s County, MD since 1945, and moved to Compton, MD in 1967.
Thelma graduated from Margaret Brent High School in 1952. She went to work at First National Bank for 10 years, furthermore she was hired at Tri-County Federal Savings and Loan Bank in Leonardtown, MD. She worked as a bank manager from 1962, retiring in 1994.
Thelma enjoyed gardening, fishing, social events, and bowling. She enjoyed taking trips to her favorite place Lancaster County, PA. Most of all she enjoyed her family and friends.
Thelma was a wonderful, kind, and dear soul to everyone she met. She will be forever in our hearts.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 17, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. Where a Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Chris Owens officiating. Interment will follow in First Saints Community Methodist Cemetery, Leonardtown, MD. Serving as pallbearers will be Scott B. Pickell, Ken Cusic, Kyle Cusic, Bobby Spalding, and Dale Spalding.

Thelma was my manager when we worked together at Tri-County Federal Savings Bank back in the 90’s. She was quite a character with a big heart and big smile. I am blessed to have known her as a coworker and friend. She will certainly be missed by many. Rest in peace, Thelma.
She was a wonderful woman and devoted wife to her husband Bootsie Cusick and she will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her! Rest in peace dear Thelma Cusick!
