Steven Alan Nicholson, “Steve”, 74, of Hollywood, MD, formerly of Cambridge, OH, passed away on November 21, 2025, at his home. Born on April 25, 1951, in Columbus, OH, he was the son of the late Christina Belle Edwards and the late Paul Andrew Nicholson. Steve was the loving husband of Tracey L. Nicholson, whom he married in Virginia Beach, VA. He is survived by his children, Joshua Steven Nicholson of GA, Dale J. Smith (Sarah) of Hollywood, MD, and James K. Smith III (Leigh Ann) of Pittsburgh, PA, his brother in laws Gregg Scott Seemiller, and Mark Allen Seemiller,his grandchildren, Bailey Russell, Norah Smith, and Aiden Smith, his nieces, Tracy Smith (Kurt), Wendy Secrest Moore (Kenny), and his nephews, Doug Smith (Shannon) and Chris Secrest (Crystal). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Nicholson, and his sisters Kay Smith (Don) and Paula Secrest (Terry).
Steve graduated from Cambridge High School in 1969 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in allied science. He served in the United States Navy for 22 years, from June 10, 1974, to January 31, 1996, and was a Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman. He moved to St. Mary’s County, MD from Pittsburgh, PA, in August 2017.
In his spare time, Steve enjoyed coin collecting, reading, and football. He was a 17-year member of the American Legion.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 10:00 AM in the funeral home chapel, with Chaplain Charlie Wharton officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
