Floyd N. Thompson, 87, of Mechanicsville, Maryland, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2026.
Floyd was born on July 31, 1939, in Dentsville, Maryland, to the late Henry Samuel Nelson Thompson and Martha Mae (Turner) Thompson. He grew up in Charles County, where he enjoyed a life centered around farming, raising tobacco, gardening, fishing, and hunting.
While farming, Floyd also drove a truck for Southern Maryland Oil. Where he was awarded driver of the year several times throughout his career. He continued working there until his retirement in 2013. Floyd was a hardworking man who took great pride in providing for and caring for his family.
In addition to his parents, Floyd was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie “Rosie” Thompson. His sisters, Dolores Eaton and Patsy Lemko; his brother, LJ Thompson; and his grandson, Billy Thompson.
Floyd is survived by his son, Frank Thompson (Brenda); and his six daughters, Kerry Kaldenbach (Kevin), Elly McConnel, Connie Hager (Chuck), Jill Wood (Steve), Amy Hunt (Greg), and Martha Dove (Kyle). Stepdaughters, Nina Raley and Cecelia Morgan. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandsons, who will carry his memory and legacy forward.
Floyd will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.
Floyd’s family will receive friends on Thursday, September 24th from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with prayers recited at 7:00 PM, at Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home in Leonardtown, Maryland. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 25th at 10:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Leonardtown, Maryland.
