Fred Gibbs Johnson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Fred Gibbs Johnson, a beloved husband, devoted friend, and honorable veteran. Fred was born on June 13, 1940, in Portsmouth, Virginia, to the late Gordon Johnson, Jr. and the late Fay Louise (Gibbs) Johnson. He journeyed through life with a spirit of commitment and warmth that touched all who had the privilege of knowing him. He departed this world on September 26, 2026, in Leonardtown, Maryland, at the age of 86.

Fred is survived by his wife, Sandra Johnson, his daughter, Linda Johnson of Texas, and his brother, Gordon Johnson of Atlanta, Georgia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children, Fred G. Johnson, Jr. and Sandra O. Johnson.

Fred dedicated a significant chapter of his life to serving his country as a proud member of the United States Army. Throughout his military career, he exemplified courage and integrity, earning several service medals that symbolized his unwavering dedication. He had a fulfilling career as a computer technician, where he continued to share his talents and passion for technology with others.

Fred was more than his accolades; he was the heart of his family. He cherished every moment spent with his beloved spouse, finding joy in the simplest of things, a shared laugh, a quiet evening, or a leisurely stroll. His love for family and friends was boundless and reflected in the countless lives he positively influenced. He had a beautiful ability to listen and provide comfort, and his legacy will be carried on by all the lives he touched.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD, where a funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
