Eleanor A. “El” McVerry, 89, of Mechanicsville, Maryland, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2026, at St. Mary’s Nursing Home, Leonardtown, MD. Known for her kind heart and quiet strength, Eleanor brought warmth and comfort to those fortunate enough to know her.

Born on August 24, 1937, in Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Florence Price. She was the beloved wife of James M. McVerry. The couple married on February 19, 1955, at Mount Calvary Catholic Church in Forestville, Maryland.

El earned her GED from Roosevelt High School in Washington, D.C., in 1956. She worked as a warehouse manager for J.C. Penney for 27 years before retiring in 1992. She approached her work and daily life with dedication, dependability, and a generous spirit.

She is survived by her daughter, Diane Maddox, of Mechanicsville, MD; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Theresa McVerry, brothers, Ed Price, Harold Price, Bob Price, and sisters, Dorothy Price, June Haw, Dora Barrett, and Shirley Hollidge.

El will be remembered with love for the care she gave her family, the friendships she cherished, and the many lives she touched. Her memory will remain a lasting source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew and loved her.

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 19, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with prayers recited at 7:00 PM, in Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM in the funeral home chapel. Interment to follow at Queen of Peace Catholic Cemetery, Helen, MD. Serving as pallbearers will be Dennis Price, Jeffrey Price, Brandon Kobilis, Christopher Kobilis, Lane Price, and Landon Johnson. Justin Johnson will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
