Resided in: Leonardtown, Maryland

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Alice Regina Goddard Abell, 99, of Leonardtown, Maryland, who was called home to the Lord on October 31, 2026.

Regina, a proud lifelong resident of Leonardtown, MD. She was born on August 22, 1927, on her family farm in Medleys Neck to Mary Josephine (Spalding) Goddard and Clarence Alfred Goddard Sr. with her siblings Benjamin (Mary Louise) Goddard, Clarence Alfred (Alberta) Goddard II, Joseph Howard (Margaret) Goddard, and Thomas (Rose) Spalding.

Regina attended Our Lady’s School as a child and later graduated from St. Mary’s Academy. On August 25, 1948. At the age of 21, she married Benedict Irving Abell, affectionately known to most as “B.I.” She began her working career with the John R. Drury Insurance Company, where she remained until the birth of her first child, Margaret Regina. Following B.I.’s passing on February 4, 1977, Regina continued to cherish the home they had built together, living there for 77 years.

A proud lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, Regina was regarded by those who knew her as an expert family and local historian. She was a gifted storyteller, a compassionate volunteer, and someone who never passed up an opportunity to help those in need. Above all, she treasured her time with family, especially her beloved grandchildren. Regina had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome and was truly a friend to all.

Regina was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Josephine and Clarence Goddard, and her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Regina (Ronald Maurice) Brown. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce (Tim) Carroll; her son, Irving (Tamara) Abell; and her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Daniel Abell and his children, Cassandra, Amber, Carter, Melody, and Samantha; Nathan (Catherine) Carroll and their children, Fiona and Caden; Ashley (Nicholas) Blitz and their daughter, Olivia; Richard (Amanda) Brown and their children, Richard and Grace; Stacey Jones; Tiffany Brown; Scott (Zi) Giotta; and Lauren Jones and her children, Madelyn, Brayden, and Jayden.

Regina will be remembered most for her unwavering love of family and her deep devotion to the Church. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she found great comfort and strength in prayer, especially in her devotion to the Blessed Mother and the Holy Family.

As we celebrate her remarkable life and the legacy of love she leaves behind, we find comfort in the prayer she held so dearly:

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
