Obituary for
Mary Alice Somerville
Mary Alice Somerville, 74, was peacefully called home to the Lord on Friday, November 8, 2019 at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital after a short illness.
Mary Alice was born on August 22, 1945 to the late Mary Elizabeth Fenwick and John C. Miles in Park Hall, MD. Mary Alice was educated at Banneker High School. She was a member of Our Lady’s Church in Medley’s Neck but after moving to Lexington Park, MD she frequently attended Holy Face Church in Great Mills.
Mary Alice was joined in Holy matrimony with Louis Edward Somerville on August 22 and was married for 7 years before he departed this earth. Their union was blessed with four children: Alice (Liz) Thomas (John), Brenda Goldring, Mary Eleanor Somerville and Gladys Somerville.
She worked as a child care provider for many years. She enjoyed taking care of the children and treated them as her own and in recent years her “babies” London, Serenity, Destiny and Harmony would accompany her to family activities. Mary Alice enjoyed reading, especially the bible, listening to music, spending quality time with family, and planting flowers. She loved chatting it up with Dorothy (Dot) Chase whom she fondly thought of as a daughter.
Mary Alice will be sorely missed by her children, 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Mary Eleanor, granddaughter Jaliyah Scriber, son in-law Earl Goldring, and very dear and special friend Vernon Eugene Barnes and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 15, 2019 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM in Our Lady’s Church at Medleys Neck Leonardtown, MD where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM with Father John Nguyen officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family wishes to wishes to express our deep and sincere gratitude and appreciation to all who prayed comforted and remembered us in our hours of bereavement. We thank you for your love, support and many acts of kindness. May God bless each of you.
