Obituary for
Kathryn Clara "Kappy" Woodburn
Kathryn Clara Woodburn, 93, of Sevierville, TN died February 27, 2023, in her home surrounded by family.
Born to William and Clara Stolzenbach on December 27, 1929 in Baltimore, “Kappy” graduated from Western High School in 1949 and worked her first job as a bank secretary.
She married Arthur Morrison Woodburn, Jr. in 1951, and together they welcomed two children, Duane and Diane. After having her children, Kathryn worked part time at the Hecht Company on Edmondson Ave. in Baltimore and then had a 20-year career as a Postal Clerk in Anne Arundel County, MD.
Following her retirement from the Post Office, she and Arthur took a celebratory month-long cross-country road trip in their Cadillac Coupe de Ville. Kathryn’s retirement years were spent traveling, crafting, gardening, relaxing in the pool, and enjoying the company of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was an avid baker (her famous Woodburn family sugar cookies have yet to be replicated exactly) and animal lover, and she is fondly remembered for always sneaking treats to children and all creatures great and small.
Kathryn is survived by her son Dr. Duane Arthur Woodburn of Millersville, MD, her daughter Mrs. Diane Annette Nelka of Sevierville, TN, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur and her five sisters: Dorothy Stolzenbach, Norma Sutherland, Betty Boleschak, Evelyn Robinson, and Elaine Knight.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 6, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home in Leonardtown, MD. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM in the Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Darryl Kemp officiating.
Interment will follow at Mt. Zion United Methodist Cemetery, Laurel Grove.
