Obituary for Theresa Edna Fenwick-Washington

Theresa Edna Fenwick-Washington
At her residence on Sunday, October 29, 2023, Theresa went home to be with her Heavenly Father and other family members after a short, courageous battle with cancer.

Theresa was born on May 17, 1942 in Clinton, Maryland, in Prince George’s County. She was the fourth of eight children, and only daughter, born to the late James Earl and Lillian Theresa Mills-Fenwick.
Theresa received her education in the St. Mary’s County Public School System and graduated with the Class of 1960 from Banneker High School in Loveville, Maryland. After graduation, she moved to Washington, D.C. with her Aunt Mary.

Theresa started her career working in clothing department stores before employment with the DC Government, from which she retired in July 2004. She continued to work for ten more years at K-Mart in Clinton, Maryland before finally retiring.

Theresa was a devout Catholic. She received her first Sacrament of Faith and her Baptism, at St. John Evangelist Catholic Church in Clinton, Maryland.

She received other Sacraments through Our Lady Chapel in Medley’s Neck, Maryland and Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church in Chaptico, Maryland. While living in the DC Metro Area she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 16th Street and Park Road NW, Washington, D.C. and Holy Name Catholic Church at 920 11th Street NE, Washington, D.C. Theresa moved back home to Chaptico in 2022 and attended Our Lady of the Wayside.

Theresa was very athletic and participated in sports at home with her brothers and in school. After school, she became less competitive but still loved the sports world and enjoyed watching her favorite teams on TV as well as attending in the sports arenas. She was a season ticket holder for the Washington Mystics basketball team in early years.

Theresa loved books and was an avid reader. She read autobiographies, biographies, and magazines; she could always find at least one interesting story in every magazine. Although reading was Theresa’s main hobby, she also enjoyed attending plays in Washington, D.C. and New York City, NY, as well as the Catholic bus trips to Scranton, PA and other places. She also loved family events.

In addition to her parents, Theresa was preceded in death by her parental grandparents, James Thurman and Louise Marie Miles-Fenwick, maternal grandparents William Henry and Millie Elizabeth Young-Mills, a very close friend, Charles Burney, brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph Gannt, John Leonard (Edna), Arthur Leo (Geneva), Jerome Sylvester, and Charles Wilmer Fenwick, nephews Reginald Anthony Fenwick and James Earl Fenwick II, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She leaves to cherish her memories her brothers, Clifton of Chaptico, Maryland and David of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, nephews and nieces, Melissa, Beverly, Eric Donnell, Eric Oliver, Jermaine, LaShawn and Leon Fenwick, Victoria Fenwick-McDonald, Crystal Moody-Beslow, Patrice Payne, great nephews and nieces Adrian Deshawn, Ashley Kameece and Reginald Fenwick, Blair, Brandon Combs-Fenwick, Alayha and Jordon Hedgepth, Lorenzo, Sergio and August McDonald, Devon Campbell, Eric Moody, and Archie Beslow, great-great nephews and nieces Amina, Reginald Anthony III, Ayden and Brayden Fenwick, Kylie Sewell, and Chance Combs-Fenwick, Aunts Ann Mills-Bowman, and Agnes Mason-Fenwick, sister-in-law Inell, Maxine, Diane Fenwick, and Beverly Herron, and many other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends on Monday, November 13, 2023 from 8:45 AM to 10:30 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00AM in Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church, Chaptico, MD with Father Chip Luckett officiating. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery Clinton, MD.

Arrangements provided by the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home and Cremation Services, P.A., Leonardtown, MD.
