William Joseph "Buddy" Gibson

William “Buddy” Joseph Gibson, 68, of Clements, passed away peacefully at home on August 19, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 16, 1958, in Leonardtown, MD, to the late Andrew “Jack” Gibson and the late Mildred Downs Gibson. Buddy married the love of his life, Connie Gibson on August 26, 1977, in Holy Angels Catholic Church, Avenue, MD. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Heather Dixon (Ray) of Avenue, MD; daughter-in-law, Karen Colonna-Gibson of Avenue, MD; four grandchildren Lydia, Michael, Hadley and Adalyn Dixon; siblings Sherry (George) Brown of Avenue, MD, Bonnie (Charles) Mattingly of Abell, MD, Mildred Sue (Billy) Farrell of Avenue, MD, sister-in-law Judy Gibson of Bushwood, MD; multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins. Buddy was preceded in death by his daughter Wendy Gibson, and brothers Jackie Gibson and Ritchie Gibson.

Buddy was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, MD, he graduated from Chopticon High School in 1976. Buddy began working at a young age in the family business, Gibson Ridge Homes, learning the trade and developing skills that would become an important part of his life. In time, he went out on his own and founded Wm. Gibson Construction. For 47 years, Buddy poured his time, talent, and pride into the company, building custom homes, completing remodels, and taking on commercial construction projects throughout St. Mary’s, Calvert and Charles County, MD. He had a gift for envisioning what could be built and the determination to make it happen.

But Buddy’s greatest legacy is not measured in construction but in his love of people. He enjoyed conversation, laughter, and simply being around others. Buddy was the kind of person who never met a stranger. He could often be found supporting the local businesses, slow-pitch softball leagues and the people he cared about.

Buddy also had a lifelong love for fast vehicles. He loved collecting them, tinkering with them, talking about them, and, no doubt, finding one more that he just couldn’t pass up. His collection reflected his keen eye for detail. He took pride in supporting multiple drag cars, racing boats, and even racing lawn mowers.

To his grandkids, he will be remembered as PopPop who always had a mint or some kind of treat to spoil them. They were his pride and joy.

Those who knew Buddy will remember more than the houses he built or the vehicles he collected. They will remember his contagious laugh, his stories, his humor, his generosity, and his ability to stir the pot at any given moment. He was a familiar face in the community and a man who valued the simple pleasure of good company.

Through 47 years of building, Buddy left his mark on countless homes, businesses, and projects. Through a lifetime of friendship, he left an even greater mark on the people around him.

Buddy will be deeply missed by his family, friends, former customers, fellow craftsmen, and the many people who had the privilege of knowing him. His work may stand for generations, but it is the memories he made with people that will keep his spirit alive.

The family will receive friends on Thursday August 27, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00PM with prayers being recited at 7:00PM. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday August 28, 2026, at 11:00AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Bushwood, MD with Father Timothy Baer and co-celebrant Father James Bruce of Our Lady of the Blue Ridge, Madison, VA. Interment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Leonardtown, MD. Serving as pallbearers will be Billy Gibson, Tracey Graves, Ritchie Gibson, Ernie Williams, Josh Deaderick and Bo Vallandingham. Honorary pallbearers will be John Hammett, Kenny Hammett, Bradley Farrell, Cameron Gibson and Brady Graves.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the 7th District Vol. Rescue Squad and 7th District Vol. Fire Department.
