Adam O'Brien Martin

Adam O’Brien Martin, 34, entered into the presence of the Lord on July 12, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. He lived boldly, loved deeply, and left this world far too soon, but not before making an unforgettable impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Born on September 9, 1991, in Baltimore, Maryland, Adam was raised in Hollywood, Maryland, graduated from Leonardtown High School in 2010, lived in Berlin, Maryland, for eight years, and later made his home in Charleston, South Carolina.

Adam was a gifted carpenter and musician who built a life around doing what he loved. As the owner of Good Neighbor Carpentry, he worked alongside his brothers, taking pride in honest work and quality craftsmanship. As the lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter for The Hooplas, he connected with people through music. It was more than a career. It was who he was. Through every lyric and every performance, Adam shared his heart and his story.

Adam loved surfing, traveling, the beach, and the outdoors. He had a creative spirit, an unmistakable style, and the confidence to be unapologetically himself. He loved people well. He was fiercely loyal, quick to forgive, generous with his time, and always willing to encourage others.

His faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of his life. During his treatment at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Clinical Center, his kindness, humor, and gratitude left a lasting impression on the physicians, nurses, researchers, and staff who cared for him. Even in his hardest days, Adam continued to encourage those around him.

He is survived by his loving parents, John and Angela Martin; his oldest sister, Elizabeth Perry (Kelsey) of Chaptico, Maryland; his brother, Jonathan Martin (Bianca) of Charleston, South Carolina; his sister, Kassie Irwin (Johnny) of Ballymote, Ireland; and his beloved twin brother, Ben Martin (Makaela) of Charleston, South Carolina. The bond Adam shared with Ben was extraordinary and remained unbreakable throughout their lives.

Adam was also a proud uncle to his beloved nieces, Gemma and Stella, and nephews, Eli, Jack, and Miles. He also leaves behind his loyal dog, Gus, who was rarely far from his side and shared in so many of life’s adventures.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, David and Joan Wilson and Edward Martin. He is survived by his grandmother, Barbara Martin.

Though his voice has been stilled, the songs he wrote will continue to be sung, the work of his hands will remain as a testament to his craftsmanship, and the love he gave will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

The Family will receive friends on Monday, July 20, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 10:00 AM in St. John’s Catholic Church, Hollywood, MD with Rev. Ray Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
