Tom was Class Leader for our pre-promotion training syllabus. Problems, obstacles, traditions and rites of passage were all minor tasks at hand, Tom lead his class through all of them, while flashing a small grin. Life was good, he had been selected for Chief by one of the toughest selection boards in the Navy. When working with Tom in the workcenter or Maintenance Control (like CPO selectee class leader) he got the job done while always taking care of his people. I am glad I had the chance to tell him that when I came aboard Eagle in Feb 2010 as a co-worker. Tom was a familiar and smiling face from our tour together in VP-68 and he greeted me with open arms and a warm hug. I will miss our conversations on many levels. We both shared an Italian heritage and loved talking about Italy, the food and wine. It was an especially high level topic! Family and Shipmates, it really is the little things in life, covet them! You all are most in my thoughts and prayers. “

He taught me this in 1980 driving in my father’s car on the Beltway up to see the Kemper Open. We were stranded when my father’s car had a stuck thermometer and overheated. While my father used a hammer and screwdriver to pop open the thermostat, Tom headed over the hill and into a ravine to scoop up water in a nearby creek to refill the radiator. I’ve never forgotten the quick wit and smile that was ever-present. My deepest condolences to Liz, “Ace”, and Jeff. “
