Barbara Ann Courtney, 83, of Lexington Park, MD, formerly of Loveville, MD, passed away on January 7, 2025, in Leonardtown, MD. Born on September 25, 1941, in Leonardtown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Lillian Marie Courtney and the late James Alexander Courtney. Barbara is survived by her children, Francis D. Bell, Jr., Monica Y. Tyler (Joseph), Calvin J. Bell, Jacqueline M. Bell, Craig W. Bell Norton, and Andre P. Courtney, her siblings, James A. Courtney, Jr., Cecelia B. Wills, Victoria B. Goldring (J.C.), Joseph D. Courtney (Mary), Thomas E. Courtney, Joseph L. Courtney, Alan R. Courtney (Tina), Andrew L. Courtney, Elaine M. Dickerson (Francis), Audrey A. Courtney, Theresa D. Young (Adrian), Michael E. Courtney (Machelle), George B. Courtney (Kim), and Ray A. Courtney, a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as her good friends, Bonnie and John O’Connell and their children, who were like her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, James A. Courtney, and her brothers, Francis X. Courtney and Paul D. Courtney. Barbara was a lifelong St. Mary’s County, MD resident and was employed by the O’Connell family for over 30 years, in addition to being a homemaker. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, cooking for friends and family, thrifting, reading, getting dressed up and going to special events, and spending time with family. Barbara became a member of St. Matthew Pentecost Church a couple years ago, and was later water baptized in Jesus’ name in March 2023. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardine Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Greg Holtz officiating.
