Services: A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2007 at 10:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dale Skurla officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens. Visitation: Viewing/Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 26, 2007 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where Prayers will be said at 7:00 PM. Bernard L. Buckler, 82, of Mechanicsville, MD died December 20, 2007 at his home surrounded by his family. Born January 17, 1925 on Cremona Farm in Mechanicsville, MD, he was the son of the late Thomas Harrison Buckler and Bertie Mae Copsey. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lucy I. Buckler on December 4, 2007. They were married on April 6, 1947 in St. Joseph Church. He is survived by his children; Patricia M. Gardiner of Mechanicsville, Donald P. Buckler of Leonardtown, Francis L. Buckler of Mechanicsville, Margaret D. (Margie) Guy and her husband Joe of Mechanicsville and Thomas W. (Wayne) Buckler, Sr. and his wife Julie of Mechanicsville. He was preceded in death by two children, Robert L. (Rabbit) Buckler and Raymond D. (Dale) Buckler. He is also survived by his sisters Louise M. Bohle of Mechanicsville, Cecilia M. Benton of Oxon Hill and Elizabeth C. Novak of Sparks, NV and brother William F. Buckler of Auburn, VA. He was preceded in death by his brothers Thomas H. Buckler, James E. Buckler, Joseph G. Buckler, John E. Buckler and George S. Buckler. He had 14 grandchildren; Shelley Forbes, Jackie Buckler, Angie Saunders, Joey Guy, Chrissy Guy, Melissa Guy, Jessica Crockett, Dale Buckler, T.W. Buckler, Norman Buckler, Danny Buckler, Nick Buckler, Josh Buckler and David Morgan; 7 great-grandchildren; Ricky Buckler, John Blake, Kayla Saunders, Katelyn Guy, Logan Guy, Lucas Crockett and one great-great-grandchild; Nathan Forbes. He is also survived by his beloved canine companion "Jasper." He was a lifelong resident of St. Mary's and attended Chaptico and Hughesville School. He was farmer and union carpenter. He was a member of Local Union 1145 which he joined in July of 1955 and was the first President of this Local. He retired in 1984 and became a lifetime member in 2005. He enjoyed riding around the farm, visiting with family and friends, oyster scalds, crab feasts, playing his numbers, sharing stories of the "secret remedies" in the old days and being called "The Old Goat." The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 26, 2007 from 5:00-8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where prayers will be said at 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2007 at 10:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Chapel, Leonardtown, MD with Rev. Dale Skurla officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD. Pallbearers will be, Shelly Forbes, Joey Guy, Jessica Crockett, T.W. Buckler, Danny Buckler and Josh Buckler. Honorary pallbearers will be Chrissy Guy, Jackie Buckler, Angie Saunders, Dale Buckler, Norman Buckler, Melissa Guy, Nick Buckler and David Morgan. Contributions may be made to the Hospice House of St. Mary's, P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
