Bernard “Bernie” Lee Goddard, 65, of Leonardtown, MD passed away on March 5, 2015 in Washington, DC. Born on November 28, 1949 in Leonardtown, MD, he was the son of the late Mary O. Goddard, and J. Lloyd Goddard, Sr. Bernie is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth Goddard, whom he married on May 7, 1988 in Mechanicsville, MD. Bernie is survived by 2 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and his brother Larry O. Goddard of Riverton, WY. He was preceded in death by his brother Joseph L. Goddard. Bernie graduated from Chopticon High School in 1968 and was a lifelong St. Mary’s County, MD resident. He worked as a Horticulturist for the Federal Government for 30 years retiring on December 5, 2005. Bernie enjoyed hunting, and gambling. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 13, 2015 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 10:00 AM in the Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Bill Nickerson officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens Leonardtown, MD. Pallbearers will be; George Kalnasy, Jeremy Hunley, James Goddard, Joseph Goddard, Michael Goddard, and Jim Cryer. Honorary Pallbearers will be; Brooke Hunley, Stacey Williams, Cameron Adams, Olivia Hunley and Elaina Justus.

  30. I was just thinking of Bernie, so I looked him up hoping to make contact after many, many years. He was a good childhood friend. I’m sorry to hear of his passing. He was a very good person. I knew his grandmother, “Miss Janie”, to me, too. In fact, she was present when my father was born! Later, she worked for him at the Leonardtown Laundry before retiring. Sorry Bernie and I never got together again. I’ve lived out in California for many years.
