Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 24 in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mechanicsville, MD at 10 AM with Father Peter Alliata officating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens. Visitation: Public Viewing will be held in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home on Thursday, September 23 from 5 - 8 PM with Prayers being said at 7 PM. Bertha Gertrude Herbert, 83, of Mechanicsville, MD died on September 19, 2004 in Charles County Nursing Home in La Plata, MD. Born May 12, 1921 in Mechanicsville, MD to the late Amy Gertrude Cusic and James Robert Long. She was preceded in death by her husband Allison L. Herbert on May 13, 1997. She is survived by her daughter Patricia A. Sanchez of La Plata, MD, brothers Paul Le Roy Long of Charlotte Hall, MD, Roderick Long of Mechanicsville, MD, sister Elizabeth Balwin of Harrisonburg, VA and also by 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her son Murray A. Herbert and brothers Robert Long and John Long. Mrs. Herbert attended Margaret Brent High School and has been a life long St. Mary's County resident. Her hobbies were cooking, gardening and reading. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 23 in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home from 5 â?? 8 PM with Prayers being said at 7 PM.
