Carolyn Anita Connelly, 84, of Leonardtown, MD, passed away on June 20, 2024, in Callaway, MD, with her loving family by her side. She was born on October 29, 1939, to the late Helen Mae Wood and the late Archie Pilkerton, Sr., in Mechanicsville, MD. Carolyn was a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County. She graduated from Margaret Brent High School in 1957. She was employed by the St. Mary’s County Circuit Court office and worked her way up through the ranks and becoming Chief Deputy Clerk. She served the clerk’s office with pride for 36 years, retiring in 2001. Carolyn met the love of her life, Thomas Fillmore Connelly, in 1956, and they married on December 27, 1958, in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mechanicsville, MD. They were married for 56 years. Thomas passed away in December 2015. Carolyn and Thomas were blessed with two daughters; Cheri Parsons (Joe) of Fredericksburg, VA, and Marcy Williams (Ernie) of Clements, MD. She was further blessed with six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She had a special relationship with all of them. Carolyn grew up with eight siblings. Surviving her is her brother, Archie Pilkerton, Jr., of Mechanicsville, MD. She was preceded in death by Arthur Pilkerton, Mary Burroughs, Bernadine Knott, Virginia Knott, Lenwood Pilkerton, Roberta Guy and Muriel Bowling. The family will receive family and friends on Monday, July 1, 2024, from 5-8pm at Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home in Leonardtown, MD. Prayers will be recited at 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 10am, at Saint Aloysius Catholic Church in Leonardtown, MD, with Father David Beaubien officiating. Interment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD. Serving as pallbearers are Trey Williams, Jay Taormina, Casey Schooler, Jarred Norris, Gilbert Murphy and Mark Bowling. Honorary pallbearers are Rick Taormina, George Tatlow, and Archie Pilkerton, Jr. The family would like to thank Hospice of St. Mary’s sincerely for the wonderful and compassionate care that Carolyn received. They provided a level of comfort and care to both Carolyn and her family that was everything it should be and much, much more. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary’s, P. O.
