Catherine “Phyllis” Wathen, 78, of Loveville, MD formerly of Helen, MD, passed away on April 21, 2015 in Callaway, MD. Born on June 4, 1936 in Leonardtown, MD, she was the loving daughter of the late Cora Ann Morgan, and Johnson Morgan of Helen, MD. Catherine was the loving wife of the late John Aloysius Wathen whom she married on October 11, 1953 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Morganza, MD, and who preceded her in death on May 21, 2006. Catherine is survived by her children Pauline Wathen (Billy), Carroll Wathen (Anna), Johnny Wathen (Jeannie) all of Huntingtown, MD, Maurice Wathen (Brenda) of Lexington Park, MD, Roger Wathen of Callaway, MD, Elvis Wathen(Betty Ann) of Hollywood, MD, Johnson Wathen of WV, Dale Wathen (Brenda) of IN, Mark Wathen of Loveville, MD., 24 grandchildren, and 25 great grandchildren. Siblings; Gorden, Gladis, and Stella all of Helen, MD. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Layla, Woodley, Ellen, Hilda, Edward, and Ethel. Catherine graduated from high school and was a lifelong St. Mary’s County, MD resident. She was a housewife. Catherine enjoyed: spending time with family, playing cards and bingo. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 24, 2015 from 5:00 PM- 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 10:00 AM in the Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Bill Nickerson officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens Leonardtown, MD. Pallbearers will be: Christopher Wathen, Gregory Wathen, Jonathan Wathen, Wayne Wathen, Kevin Wathen, and Kenny Wathen. Honorary Pallbearers will be Randy Wathen. A gathering will be held a Carroll Wathen’s home afterwards

Her death has been one of the hardest thing I’ve ever had to deal with.she was the best grandma I’ve ever had and she was a very good person to others and she was a good mother to her children and she was also a good grandmother to her grandchildren and a great friend.we will truly miss her, your face would always light up when you seen your grandchildren.Il never forget our bingo nights, and watching all the soapoperas and our game shows. I love you grandma in my heart you will always remain and in my soul will always be apart of you grandma I love you.
