  1. I was so very sad to hear that Dan had been ill and then passed. The earth lost an Irishman with a wonderful sense of humor, an integrity unmatched and an underdog true friendship while Heaven gained an angel. Dan, may Gos hold you in the palm of his hands. I know the angels surrounded you when you arrived. Your Irish sister, Kathleen (& Chuck)

  2. My wife, Sook, and I send our deepest condolences to Pat and members of Dan’s family. I have been blessed with having had the opportunity to work with many dedicated individuals. Dan was, without question, one of the best. His humility, integrity, and utmost professionalism were beyond compare. His quick wit and humor were cherished by many, especially me. I mourn the loss of a brother and friend. May you rest in peace, Dan. May you rest in peace.

  3. I was saddened to learn of Dan’s passing….you have my deepest sympathies. Dan and I were stationed on the Bibb in Boston way back. I was a brand new ensign and Dan’s friendship and help were a Godsend on a miserable tour! I just loved “Leo’s” laugh and easy manner, particularly when dealing with some truly questionable characters. He saved my sanity!
We shall miss him and I for one shall never forget him and his impact on my life.

  4. My sincere condolences to Dan’s family. I had the privilege of knowing Dan while he served as Chief Financial Officer for SMCPS. Dan was so intelligent, very conscientious, and, above all, caring. I will always remember his broad smile – especially when he spoke of his family. Heaven received a true gentleman. Rest in peace Dan.

Very sad to hear about Dan. It was a privilege to know Dan when he worked at St. Mary’s County Public Schools. His greetings always came with a smile, and his dry sense of humor was always appreciated. Such a kindhearted, friendly, and gentle soul.

  6. I spent many a day at the Carney homestead in Sag Harbor. His brother Joe was a good friend of mine. Dan was one of my inspirations to join the US Coast Guard. I even got to get together with him while I was stationed at Governor’s Island NY. The world has lost a good man and my deepest condolences go out to the Carney family.

  7. Dan was a treasured friend and Coast Guard Academy classmate. I will always remember our time together on the basketball court at CGA. Rest in peace my friend.
