You all are in our thoughts and prayers.I came across this poem that reminded me of Danny and wanted to share with his family and friends. Memories of You Within my book of memories are special thoughts of you and all the evidence of glorious things which, because of you, came true. As I turn back the pages of memories and recall each single thought, I realize the happiness and pleasure that knowing you has brought. There are memories of the times we’ve shared both bright and gloomy days there are memories of your kindness and your friendly, thoughtful ways. There are memories of your laughter, your gay and cheery smile that added a bright note to each of us and made life more worthwhile. There are memories of the things we planned each friendly little chat, when we would get together and just talk of this and that. And when I recall these memories as I move along life’s way they grow more precious and blessed with every passing day. “

  49. “A Good Man by Joan Clifton Costner When a good man dies a thousand lights go out, And it’s said a giant library is lost – Oh, I’ve tried to make comparisons and wise clichés To estimate, in part, a good man’s loss; For I know the way it feels to have your heart bend low- And I understand how dark the nights can be…. But a good man has a heritage beyond the grave, And we would be so foolish not to see That a good man leaves a light his children follow- No groping through some wilderness or maze- And howe’er their lives, it shines on in a brilliance That they can see ’til ending of their days’ And his words come ringing, deep, in vibrant stereo Within the keen recesses of their minds… There’s guidance there enough to get to Heaven Where once again their hearts and arms entwine. I’m so sorry for your loss here on the earth below- But I’m proud to say “a good man” went away… And you’ll see him soon – it won’t be long – just follow The lights a good man left upon the way… My deepest sympathy goes out to the entire Greer Family. Tommy “

  119. “Dear Linda and the entire Greer Family, There are no words to express the sorrow we feel for all of you. Danny was one of the nicest people anyone could meet and know. Having Danny, Bobby G., Lil Ray G., JC Abell, Clarance G., & Mickey N. on “Pennies” pool team for many years, was such a great pleasure and those fond memories will live in our hearts forever. “

  120. “To the Greer Family – I was deeply saddened to learn of Danny’s passing. He was a hell of a guy with always a smile on his face. He was a Senior when I was a Freshman at Chopticon and of course, there was the Bud Ski Trips. I guess I really came to know Danny better when he worked on and off with my ex-husband, Doug. One of the best stories was when they had to go out to one of the aircraft carriers for work. Doug said they had been out there for almost two weeks. He said it was hot and humid and they were working long days. They were on the flight deck and someone mentioned that an ice cold beer would taste real good. He said he wished he had had a camera to take a picture of Danny’s face. He said Danny was almost salivating and got cussing and fussing saying, “Don’t be talking about no ice cold beer right now cause I could probably drink a case.” He said they teased him bad. May you find comfort in the memories of good times.”

  121. “We are so sorry to hear of your loss. Danny was a good man with a good heart. He will truly be missed. God Bless.”

  122. “Dearest Linda, Jennifer, Crystal, and Jessie, I can not get over this shock to the heart. My love, prayers, and thoughts are with all of you. There is not enough sympathy cards in the world, to convey how truely saddened and sorry I feel for all of the Greer Family. For Austin, and all the Grandchildren, for Kathy, Eddie, Ricky, Brenda, my heart aches for all of you. Danny was a good friend, great story/joke teller, co-worker, a great painter, with a beatiful heart, and a smile that would light up a room. He will be missed beyond words. WE CAN NOT HOLD A TORCH TO LIGHT ANOTHERS PATH, WITHOUT BRIGHTENING OUR OWN. Please let me know what I can do for you, and your family. God’s Love to all, Karen Arnold”

  123. “Jennifer-I pray that God is with you during the days, weeks and months ahead. You will miss your father dearly, but in time all the happy memories will replace the tears of sadness with tears of happiness. The pain and sadness within your heart is only natural. After all, a girl’s father is always the most important man in her life. The one thing that has comforted me since I lost my dad is to talk to him. He may not be there in flesh, but he will always be there in spirit. You will be in my thoughts and prayers as you mourn the loss of your dad. If you need a good shoulder to lean on, I have two. “

  124. “My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you.”

  125. “Jessie & family I am so sorry to hear about your dad passing away. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Greer family.”

  128. “Dear Kathy and Family, I know there is nothing we can say or do to make you feel better at this very difficult time in all of your lives, but, please remember that Danny is in a much better place now, with our maker. May God lead him to our promise lands with the guidence of his special Angels. My heartfelt sympathy is extended to each and every one of you. Danny was a very pleasant man, and could be a “character” with his smiling but fun loving face. It was always a pleasure to assist him when he visited me at the Credit Union. He touched the lives of many, and will be truly missed by all who knew him. Take care of yourselves, and if you are in need with anything at all, please don’t hesitate to contact me. 151. “To Linda, Danny’s daughter’s, family and friends. It is with the greatest saddness that we are writing this condolence. Danny was my pool partner for for many years and although I hadn’t seen him in in a long time, he was never forgotten. Danny had a way of making you laugh no matter what. God Bless all of you.”

  153. “Linda and the entire Greer family, There are no words that can be said that seem proper and no words to ease the pain of your tremendous loss. I knew Danny for a very long time, he and i became very close over the past few years, we would talk, laugh, joke and of course play cards. We would share weekly stories at breakfast and talk about work, friends and family. Please believe that he cherished his family and cared about each and every one of us like a family mamber. It was rare for Danny to say anything bad about anyone and even more rare to hear anyone say something about him unless it was about his caring nature, his amount of friends or how generous he was. He was loved by many, cared about most and will be missed by all. Rest in Peace my friend…”

If I wanted to be judged by people and they said who would you like to be like. I would say Danny Greer. He will always be with us. I will always remember that Macy’s parade trip he had planned for you two. God will take care of him.”

  157. “My thoughts and prayers are with Danny’s family. I knew and worked with Danny for many years. I will miss him.”

  158. “Danny was one of my favorite people to work with. He made the job fun. We had lots of laughs when we were all together. We had good times playing cards at lunch. I helped him cut trees down a few times, and he even made that fun. One great memory that I have of him was the time he came to my house to cut some trees down. He had been at another friends’ house all day cutting trees down, and he made it to my house early in the evening. He got his really tall latter, climbed as high as he could, tied the rope to one of the extremely tall poplar trees. I was in his truck, he had the saw. He started to cut, then gave his wave. I began to pull the tree, but some of the bark would not let go. The tree twisted and totally went the wrong direction. It came within 5 feet of my house and took out 1/2 of my Japanese Maple tree. If you could see the look of Horror then relief on his face. We got a lot of laughs out of that. He also cut trees down for my mom without any problems. I’ll miss him terribly. There is a huge hole in St. Mary’s County without him. He touched so many people’s lives. To the Greer family and friends, my families thoughts and prayers are with you. “

  201. Derek, Linda, and Evan Greer says:

“Dear Aunt Linda and Family, I’m proud to say I am Danny’s nephew and Godson and I’m more proud to share many of our moments that have made me who I am today. Danny taught me many simple things in life and especially how to enjoy myself doing them. Maybe not directly and not always by his words, but by his actions. There are so many memories I have of Danny from the time I was a little boy playing baseball to a grown adult playing softball and everything in between. I was always happy that Danny attended a lot of my little league baseball games. I remember he would give me a quarter for each single, two quarters for each double, three quarters for each triple, and a dollar and ice cream for a home run. I loved it! As I grew older, Danny would travel an hour each way to watch my all-star games. He continued to watch my high school baseball games and Young Men’s softball. Danny took me crabbing as a kid. Sometimes he would invite me to spend the night before. He would always have two frozen Reese’s Peanut Butter cups and a Pepsi ready to go at 4AM the next morning. One time we caught our limit, took them back to his house, then caught our limit a second time! In typical Danny Greer happy-go-lucky style, he often joked how I would get thrown overboard if I missed another crab on the trot-line. Danny and I also liked wrestling and the WWF. He took me to a couple live matches at the old Capital Center. Wow, what a fun experience that was as a little kid! We talked about wrestling all of the time. He would also give me the recorded VHS videos of each pay-per-view event. Danny provided me with one of my first time jobs. He would pick me early on Saturday and Sunday mornings to help with his weekend paint jobs. He paid me well and we had a good time together. He would tell me lots of funny stories and jokes. We talked a lot about sports. Danny always joked with me when I was painting those 6 panel doors. Evidently, I was really slow. He would say – “Derek, I asked you to paint the door, not fall in love with it!”. As I finished school and started working full time, Danny and I still had an active relationship. It was Danny that found my first house. And of course, Danny painted the entire house at no cost. It was Danny would would randomly call me on nice summer evenings to offer a couple dozen hot steamed crabs or offer freshly harvested Patuxent River oysters during the fall and winter months. It was Danny who would find me University of Maryland basketball tickets at the last minute through one of his many connections. It was Danny who would take me out to lunch when he needed even the smallest favor. It was Danny that I would always enjoy seeing at Dad’s over 40 softball games. It was Danny that has left a everlasting impression on me. Although Danny’s life has come to a sudden end, his memories will last many life times. I’m saddened that my son Evan is too young to remember any first hand memories of Danny. But one day, in about 10 years, Evan will be playing little league baseball with his friends. Maybe he will get a couple hits or even hit a home run. When that happens, I am going to take him to get a big ice cream just as Danny did for me. Although Uncle Danny won’t be there physically, his spirit will be as vibrant as ever! Love, Derek, Linda, and Evan “

I will never forget your smile, your jokes, your stories, your tricks, your facial expressions, and especially your laugh. You loved to make people laugh and see them smile. You are the most kind-hearted, giving person I know. You taught me how to ride my first bike, how to swim (by throwing me in the water!), how to shoot my first gun, and how to field dress my first deer. You even let me have your best deer stand where I killed my first deer. I’ll never forget those wonderful times we had deer hunting with Dad. I loved those afternoon lunch breaks where we told our stories. I especially remember you laughing at the first deer I killed. Its weight was about 60 pounds. You called it Bambi. I will always remember all the good times we had together playing little league baseball and softball for Dean’s Sunoco. High school was certainly an adventure. I know you were always there to help me solve any problem I had. You were truly a great big brother! I will miss you every day. Rick. “
