David "Earl" Downs

David Earl Downs, “Earl”, 68, of Clements, MD, formerly of Oraville, MD, passed away on October 31, 2023 at his home. Born on December 31, 1954, he was the son of the late Hazel Elizabeth Nations and the late James Floyd Downs. Earl is survived by his siblings, Francis Eugene Buckler and Charlotte Faye Buckler, both of Clements, MD.
Earl was a lifelong St. Mary’s County, MD resident and graduated from Chopticon High School in 1974. He was a building service manager for White Marsh Elementary School for 48 years, retiring in 2015.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM in the Matingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD, where a funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM in the funeral home chapel with Father Michael Tietjen officiating. Interment will be private.

Dear Eugene and family…I am so very sorry about Earls passing. I enjoyed working with Earl. Always commenting on “how much toilet paper the kids used” when I would beep him to replenish it in the bathrooms. A special man with a big heart! Rest in peace, Earl! ❤️
I was a student at White Marsh in 1992. I remember seeing Mr. Down’s at lunch and in the hallways as a child. He was always so kind and truly enjoyed seeing all of us. Thank you to his family for sharing him with all of us kids for so many years!
Am so sorry to hear of Earl’s passing. I had a couple classes with him at CHS and always knew him to be such a good guy with a quiet sense of humor. It is easy to see why he was such an asset at White Marsh – you knew you could trust him to be there. The world needs more Earls; rip old friend.
