Debbie Denise Lawrence

Debbie Denise Lawrence, 69, of Mechanicsville, MD, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on June 16, 2026. Born on February 26, 1957, in Leonardtown, MD, she was the cherished daughter of the late Mary Helen Wood-Buckler and Lawrence Elmer Buckler. Debbie shared a loving marriage with James Anthony Lawrence, Sr., whom she married on August 16, 1974, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mechanicsville, MD.

Debbie will be lovingly remembered by her children Tessa Garner (Timothy) of Charlotte Hall, MD; her granddaughter, Alexis Marie Lawrence of Colonial Beach, VA; her two great-grandchildren, Lyla May Owen and Grace Marie Owen, both of Colonial Beach, VA; and her siblings, Joyce Ann Hagen of Ft. Myers, FL, Lois Marie Stancel of Fuquay Varina, NC, Betty Lou Buckler of Hughesville, MD, Robert Gerald Buckler of Mechanicsville, MD, and Ricky Lee Buckler of Mechanicsville, MD. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, James Anthony Lawrence, Jr., and her brother, John Donald Buckler.
A lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, MD, Debbie was proud of her roots and graduated from Chopticon High School in 1974.

Debbie worked as a bookkeeper for Custom Woods until her retirement in 2017. She found joy in gardening and decorating, and she took great pride in caring for her home. Those who knew her will remember her attention to detail, her hardworking spirit, and the love she put into everything she did.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home in Leonardtown, MD, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM with Father Paul Nguyen officiating. Interment will follow at Charles Memorial Gardens in Leonardtown, MD. Serving as pallbearers will be Timothy L. Garner, James Buckler, Raymond Lawrence, Steven Long, Jason Butler, and Ricky Lee Buckler.

In Lieu of flowers the family request donation be made to Hospice of St. Mary’s, P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD.
