A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, November 25, 2013 at 2:00 PM in Charles Memorial Gardens Leonardtown, MD with Deacon Bill Nickerson officiating.
Delores “Dee” June (Edwards) Mecum, 75 of Owings, MD, formerly of Mechanicsville, MD, died November 22, 2013 at Calvert County Nursing Center in Prince Frederick, MD.
Born November 1, 1938 in Marion, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Thelma Sweeney (Edwards) Cronkite and Irvin Edwards. She was preceded in death by her husband Harrell, whom she married May 4, 1963, and her brother Dennis Eugene Edwards.
She worked several jobs during her career but her fondest job was working with her husband at their appliance shop at the Charlotte Hall Farmer’s Market. After the passing of her husband, she became a caregiver and was deeply loved by those she cared for. In later life as her health declined, she moved into assisted living in Owings, MD.
A charter member since 1974 of the Mechanicsville, Maryland Women of the Moose #444, she felt it was one of her greatest accomplishments to help establish this organization that still continues today.
Dee and her husband Harrell never had children of their own but, were blessed with many friends and their children during her life. Her adopted family included the family of Carolyn Miller of Walkertown, NC, W.O.T.M. #444, the family of Carlton and Lydia Wood of Mechanicsville, MD, James Raleigh family of Brownsville, PA, Frank Myrta family of Crofton, MD, Carol Perini of Dunkirk, MD, and all her friends at the assisted living homes and North Beach Senior Center. A private burial was held on November 25, 2013 in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD. Prayers were said by charter members of the Women of the Moose #444. Deacon Bill Nickerson officiated.
