Edward Augustus Raley, son of the late Harry and Lillian Raley, passed away on October 31, 2015. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elaine Marie (Colleran) Raley, whom he met at MIT Lincoln Laboratory applying advanced technology to problems of national security. Together they had six children; Edward Augustus (Beth) Raley, Jr.; Suzanne Elaine (Randall) McAdams; Gregory Joseph (Heather) Raley; Cynthia Anne Raley (Robert) Moseley; James Patrick (Kathy) Raley; and John Michael Lahiff Raley. Ed is survived by two brothers, Charles M. (late Inja) Raley and Thomas D. (Eleanore) Raley, and joins brother Harry “Bobby” (Irene) Raley in death. He has twelve grandchildren and one great- granddaughter, as well as a large and loving extended family in Southern, Md. Ed joined the US Army during the Korean War and continued to serve his country quietly and selflessly in the Central Intelligence Agency, Army Security Agency, and National Security Agency until retirement. Additionally, he taught computer science at MIT at the inception of the computer era and was a champion chess player. Ed was a sportsman who loved the outdoors and especially the water, where he reveled in fishing excursions. His children appreciate the many sacrifices he made for them and his patience as they traversed life. His understated ways, quiet but fierce support, and playful whistle will be sorely missed. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 5, 2015 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM with prayers recited at 7:00PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD.
