Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at 10:00 AM in St. Aloysius Catholic Church with Father Dakis officiating. Interment will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visitation: Public Viewing & Visitation will be held on Monday, July 18, 2005 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where Prayers will be said at 7:00 PM Elaine Mary Sanger, 82, of Leonardtown, MD died July 12, 2005 in Washington, D.C. Born July 3, 1923 in Ft. Dodge, IA she was the daughter of the late Emmett and Marie Rebecca Heller Russell. She was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Sanger, Sr., whom she married in 1947 in Leonardtown, MD. She is survived by her children, Charlotte Elaine Greco of Ft. Myers, FL; Judith L. Balta and G. Frank Sanger both of Valley Lee, MD; and, two grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Mary Lou Michelson of Duncombe, IA; Patricia Wise and Judy Combs both of Leonardtown, MD; Johanna Fawcett and Daniel Russell both of Ft. Dodge, IA; and, Jerry Russell of Kerrville, TX. She was preceded in death by her siblings, John Russell, Kathleen Hansen, Patrick Russell, Bill Russell, Barbara Mair and Robert Russell. Mrs. Sanger was a graduate of Barnum High School, Class of 1942 and attended one year of Business School. She served her country in the U. S. Navy from 1943 until 1947. She relocated to St. Mary's County in 1944 from Claire, IA. She was employed as a civilian with the U. S. Navy and worked at the Comptroller's Office at Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, MD for 35 years until her retirement on August 11, 1978. She then was employed on the staff of the St. Mary's County Commissioners. Mrs. Sanger was a member of the Leonardtown Fire Department Ladies' Auxiliary, National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) and the Leonardtown Lioness Club. The family will receive friends in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home on July 18, 2005 from 5 - 8 PM and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on July 19, 2005 at 10:00 AM in St. Aloysius Catholic Church with Father John Dakis officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Aloysius Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mrs. Sanger will be Robert Combs, Jr., John Loving, Chris Lowe, Michael Greco, Brad Hubbard and Bobby Wise.
