Services: A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, February 18, 2013 at 11:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Chapel Leonardtown, MD with Father Keith Woods officiating. Interment will be private. Visitation: The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 17, 2013 from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. Elizabeth “Bessie” Louise Proffitt, 79 passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, with family by her side, on January 16, 2013 in Cape Coral, FL. Elizabeth, “Bessie”, as she was known fondly by so many, was a long time resident of Beltsville, MD and North Charleston, SC before moving to FL in 2009. Born on December 28, 1933 in Mechanicsville, MD, Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Leonard B. and Mary (Tippett) Alvey. Loving Mother to: Winnie Nicholls of MD, Wanda Talbott (Scott) of MD, Brenda “Jewell” Emer (Ray) of FL, April Chenevert (Kevin) of MD, Jerome B. Grabis of MD, Deborah Digise of GA, Michael Proffitt of PA. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her son, William “Willie” Padgett. Loving & Devoted Grandmother to: Scotty Talbott II of MD, Christina Talbott of MD, Travis Talbott of MD, Angela Emer of FL, Hunter Emer of FL, Jason Chenevert of IN, Anthony Digise of GA and Jennifer Hulett of UT. Elizabeth is also survived by her great grandchildren. Beloved Sister to: James Alvey of MD, John Alvey of NC, Hazel Summers of VA, Lee Alvey of TN, Robert Alvey of MD, Joseph (Larry) Alvey of MD, Wayne Alvey of MD, Linda Summers of MD, the late Irene Strickland, Helen Stoneman and a host of other relatives and friends. Elizabeth, a homemaker, had an uncanny ability to see the beauty in anything she touched. An avid gardener with an extraordinary green thumb, she naturally found great joy in tending to and watching her flowers and plants grow and bloom. Lavender/Purple was her favorite color. Elizabeth had a love of collecting knick knacks and glass trinkets. Elizabeth was also an admirer of books and while working at her daughter, Jewells’ bookstore in SC, met and developed everlasting friendships that she cherished to this day. Elizabeth was a beautiful, thoughtful and compassionate lady that will be truly missed by so many as she starts this new journey. As her famous tagline goes, “I Love You, Bye-Bye”. Until we meet again…… Visitation: The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 17, 2013 from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home located at 41590 Fenwick Street, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
