Services: A funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home on Thursday, January 22, 2009 with Rev.Bill Arick officiating. Another funeral service will be held at the National Funeral Home, Falls Church, VA at 12:00 Noon on Friday, January 23, 2009. Interment will follow in National Memorial Park/King David Memorial Gardens, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA at 12:30 PM. Visitation: The family will receive friends at the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home on Thursday, January 22, 2009 from 6 - 8 PM and again on Friday, January 23, 2009 at the National Funeral Home, Falls Church, VA from 11:00 AM - 12 Noon. Evelyn “Ebby” Brown Schellhase, 85, of Valley Lee, MD, and formerly of Silver Spring, MD and Arlington, VA, died January 16, 2009 at her residence. Born August 19, 1923 in Washington, DC she was the daughter of the late Roland and Lillian Troupe Brown. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert L. Schellhase whom she married on February 14, 1948 and who preceded her in death on January 21, 1987. She is survived by her daughter Kimberly Schellhase Nokleby and her husband Jerry of Piney Point, MD and her son Paul S. Schellhase of Valley Lee, MD as well as her grandsons; Ronald R. Watt III of Seattle, WA, Cody R.M. Nokleby of Piney Point, MD and Joshua S. Schellhase of Valley Lee, MD. She is also survived by her niece Sherrill Toole of Front Royal, VA, her friend Patricia K. Norris and her best friend (dog) Kipper. She was preceded in death by her sister Doris Brown Toole. She was a graduate of Montgomery Blair High School in Silver Spring, MD “Class of 1941”. Evelyn was raised in Silver Spring, MD. When she married in 1948, she moved with her husband to Arlington, VA where she lived until his death in 1987. She then moved to St. Mary’s County to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She loved sitting and watching the water as well as going to lunch with friends. She was an avid baker, specializing in her rum cakes. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 22, 2009 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held at 7:00 PM with Rev. Bill Arick officiating. The family will also receive friends on Friday, January 23, 2009 from 11:00 AM- 12:00 PM in National Funeral Home in Falls Church, VA where a second funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow in National Memorial Gardens, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042. “Thank you to Hospice from the family, you helped us when we really needed it”. Contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary's County, P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650 and/or 2nd District Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 1, Valley Lee, MD 20692. Pallbearers will be Cody R.M. Nokleby, Joshua S. Schellhase, Roger Cook, Gary Cook, Mike Geigan and Billy Brooks.
