Services: A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bushwood, MD, with Fr. Francis Early officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation: The family will receive friends on Friday, May 6, 2011 from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD where prayers will be recited at 7:00 PM. Frances Cecelia Spence, 95 of Bushwood, MD, died Tuesday, May 3, 2011 in St. Mary’s Hospital, Leonardtown, MD. Born September 9, 1915 in Ellicott City, MD, she was the daughter of the late Harry W. and Margaret M. Chambers Lord. She was the wife of the late George W. Spence, Jr. whom she married on June 6, 1936 in Westminster, MD, Mr. Spence preceded her in death on June 3, 1995. Mrs. Spence is survived by her children; Margaret ”Peggy” Guy (Jackie) of Mechanicsville, MD, James W. Spence (Joyce) of Bushwood, MD, Robert “Harry” Spence (Maxine) of Mechanicsville, MD, and Alan T. Spence (Jackie) of St. Mary’s City, MD, survived by 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren, Mrs. Spence was also the foster parent of numerous children. In addition to her husband Mrs. Spence was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Elaine Guy and 11 brothers and sisters. Frances was a homemaker. She had worked for many years at Dynard Elementary School in food service. Even though she was 95, she lived independently until recent weeks. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 6, 2011 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD where prayers will be recited at 7:00PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 10:00AM in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bushwood, MD with Father Francis Early officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Guy, Jr., Craig Spence, Jay Spence, Mark Spence, Bobby Guy, and Jon Spence. Honorary Pallbearers will be Judy Copsey, Valerie Smiley, Diane Lacey, J.R. Guy, Jerry Spence, Kim Nelson, Kristie Norris, and Andrea Spence. Contributions may be made in memory of Frances Cecelia Spence to the 7th District Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O.
